Duties
- Assist pharmacists with medication preparation, including compounding and labeling prescriptions with precision and aseptic technique.
- Manage medication intake and inventory control to ensure timely availability of pharmaceuticals.
- Support patient service activities by providing explicit medication instructions and answering basic questions about prescriptions.
- Prepare and deliver IV infusions in accordance with hospital protocols and aseptic procedures for critical care or acute care units.
- Maintain accurate documentation of medication administration, patient records, and pharmacy logs to ensure compliance with medical terminology standards.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to facilitate medication distribution within hospital or LTC settings.
- Uphold safety standards by adhering to infection control practices, especially when handling sterile medications and performing aseptic techniques.
Experience
- Prior pharmacy technician experience in LTC pharmacy or hospital environments is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology relevant to pharmacy operations and patient care.
- Experience with IV infusion preparation, medication administration, and aseptic technique is essential.
- Critical care or acute care experience will be considered an asset for this role.
- Strong communication skills focused on patient service and patient care are necessary for success.
- Familiarity with pharmacy software systems and inventory management tools is advantageous.
