TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Urban Design & Planning, Policy & Zoning Analysis experience.
- Adept at navigating Official Plans and By-laws across Ontario municipalities.
- Well developed analytical thinking, time management, team development, computer skills and research skills.
- Knowledge of planning legislation including the Planning Act and local municipal planning framework.
- Prior experience preparing planning applications for Consent, Minor Variance, Zoning By-Law Amendments (Rezoning), Official Plan Amendments, and Site Plan Control is required.
- Must have prior experience drafting and reviewing Planning Review Reports and Planning Justification Reports.
- Skilled in data entry, filing, and maintaining organizational systems.
- Ability to multitask in a quick-paced environment.
- Accurate record-keeping, Organizational skills, Attention to detail, Interpersonal skills, ability to communicate with the public, good judgment.
- Leadership and professionalism.
- AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Google based products experience an asset.
- Skilled at utilizing technical tools and data-driven insights to inform decision-making
- Commitment to high-quality, policy informed planning work, teamwork, communication, and project delivery.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- University degree or college diploma in Urban and Regional Planning or planning related degree/ education is required. Areas of specialization could include:
- environmental management and ecosystem planning, resource management, policy planning, social planning, demographics, economics, statistical analysis, systems design, modeling, database design, Geographic Information Systems, urban and rural policy, and planning law.
- Minimum 2-5 years of responsible, relevant experience in land use planning and development, either in the private sector or at the municipal level
- Assets: Academic training in civil engineering, urban design, urban agriculture or landscape planning. RPP designation or Have/pursuing OPPI & CIP membership (RPP designation track).
- Knowledge and understanding of Muskoka and area by-laws, planning legislation, policies and guidelines is an asset.
- Great verbal and written communication skills as well as analysis skills is a must.
- Strong written communication and research skills are minimum requirements to assist in the preparation of Planning Justification Reports, Planning Review Reports, and the completion and submission of various application packages and supporting documentation.
- Residence within 50 km of office location.
- “G” class driver’s license is required.
DUTIES:
- Site Planning, Urban Design, Land Development Research
- Conduct zoning and Official Plan analysis
- Interpret Official Plans and zoning by-laws to identify land use opportunities and constraints
- Site plan approvals, policy interpretation, zoning research and development feasibility.
- Manage multiple site plan and planning submissions
- Produce supporting renderings and site layouts
- Research and prepare materials for municipal pre-consultation. Assembling and submitting various Planning application packages
- Conduct and contribute to site inspections and undertake research as required
- Prepare planning rationale, draft reports and development briefs supported by zoning summaries and development feasibility assessments
- Prepare and present written and oral reports/briefings and make recommendations
- Maintain data in organizational systems and accurate record-keeping in the company tracking systems
- Work collaboratively with team members and clients to ensure accuracy of work. Review project scope changes, update schedules, and adjust timelines as new work arises.
- Resolve conflicts and identify appropriate implementation measures
- Evaluate project progress on a weekly basis and generate scheduling reports to support client invoicing
- Consult with area municipalities, developers, consultants, property owners, legal counsel, the public, the province, and other agencies. Support and liaise with municipal planners to address planning & servicing requirements
- High-quality, policy informed planning work, teamwork, communication, and project delivery.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's Degree (preferred)
EXPERIENCE:
- Urban Planners & Designers: 2-5 years (preferred)
SCHEDULE: Full Time. Monday to Friday Work Location: In person - Port Carling, ON.

Pay: $60,000.00-$90,000.00 per year
