Join Our Team as a Preservation Lead & Technician!

Position summary

Bluewater Group is seeking a Preservation Technician to keep spare equipment in service-ready condition while it sits in long-term storage — pumps, motors, pulleys, valves and valve gates, and similar parts. This is a hands-on technical role carried out against scheduled preservation work orders. The Technician reports to the Logistics Manager.

Technical direction comes from the client's business unit and reliability team, with coordination through the Bluewater warehouse team for logistical and operational needs. The role identifies and reports concerns but does not make final decisions on material disposition.

Duties and responsibilities

- Perform scheduled preservation and re-preservation of parts and equipment held in long-term storage, working to the procedure specified on each work order.
- Look up preservation status, stock on hand, physical location, and movement history in the ERP and warehouse management system as needed, and flag records that appear inconsistent.
- Coordinate with the Bluewater warehouse team at the assigned work location, whether a remote site or the Edmonton warehouse, including requesting heavy equipment operator support to retrieve or reposition material.
- Clean and prepare material as required and apply the preservation product specified on the work order. Assess material condition and severity of degradation against its storage requirements,

judging material usability before and after work, and confirm the specified product is compatible with the component materials before use, and report deficiencies — or concerns with the specified preservation method itself — for direction.
- Tag material with its known preservation history, maintain traceability through the chain of custody, and record time, photographs, and notes against each work order, completing close-out documentation with any outstanding exceptions.
- Identify material requiring initial preservation, including newly received or newly in-scope items as well as material missed previously, and report it so the work can be scheduled separately.
- Provide an assessment when the client business unit or the warehouse team asks whether material can or should be preserved, whether it falls in scope, or whether it has been prepared correctly, referring the decision to the Logistics Manager or reliability team. Escalate work the team is not equipped or trained to perform so specialized support can be arranged.

Qualifications

Required

- Minimum 4 years in material handling or warehousing operations, giving working familiarity with parts and their end use; or minimum 1 year in preventive maintenance, long-term storage preparation, or preservation work.
- Ability to learn product and material compatibility limits, and to distinguish conditions that can be corrected in place from those that must be reported.
- Able to navigate an ERP and warehouse management system independently to look up work orders and verify material records. Expert-level proficiency is not required.
- Able to document work in a digital activity tracker, including time entry, photographs, and notes.
- Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English, sufficient to work with the client business unit and to document work clearly.
- Willing and able to travel to remote sites and stay in camp on the rotations described under Schedule and location.

Preferred

- Post-secondary education in an engineering-related or technical field,

or tickets and certifications in preservation, preventive maintenance, or a similar discipline would be an asset.
- Familiarity with preservation practices for stored equipment, enough to work toward the appropriate approach independently and to recognize and call out when something is not right.
- Forklift, order picker, crane/hoisting, or general rigging experience.

Conditions of employment

- Valid Class 5 driver's license.
- Successful completion of a background check and references

Physical demands and work environment

- Able to lift up to 50 lb. unassisted, with heavier loads handled using mechanical aids or with assistance; able to stand and walk for extended periods, and occasionally work at heights from equipment such as an order picker.
- Work outdoors in varying weather as required..

Schedule and location

- Permanent, full-time position.
- Primary working location is the Bluewater warehouse in Edmonton, Alberta, working 4 days a week at 10 hours per day (Monday – Thursday).
- Travel to remote sites is required, currently averaging approximately 8 weeks per year, on compressed schedules such as 14-day rotations at 12 hours per day. When working on site a $4.00 per hour premium is applied to the base wage.
