Position Overview The Process Planner will report directly to the Operations Manager and will be responsible for coordinating and tracking customer orders from receipt through production and shipment.
This role will serve as a key link between Purchasing, Production, Quality, Engineering, and Operations. The successful candidate will maintain visibility over material availability, production status, upcoming requirements, and delivery commitments while proactively identifying issues that could impact the production schedule.
This is a hands-on position suited to someone who is highly organized, comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, and able to follow up consistently across multiple departments.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and track new customer purchase orders and production requirements.
- Maintain an up-to-date production schedule in coordination with the Operations Manager.
- Track the progress of jobs throughout the manufacturing process and ensure planned production dates are being followed.
- Monitor raw material requirements and expected material arrival dates.
- Coordinate with Purchasing to identify material shortages or potential delays.
- Work closely with Production Supervisors and machine operators to understand job status and upcoming priorities.
- Identify jobs that are falling behind schedule and escalate concerns to the Operations Manager.
- Monitor customer delivery dates and ensure production priorities are aligned with customer requirements.
- Coordinate with Engineering and Quality where documentation, First Article Inspection, tooling, programming, or other requirements may impact production.
- Track outside processing and subcontracted operations where required.
- Maintain accurate job status information and provide regular production updates to management.
- Assist in planning machine loading, production sequencing, and upcoming shop requirements.
- Help ensure completed jobs move efficiently through inspection, outside processing,
assembly, and shipping.
- Participate in daily and weekly production planning meetings.
- Continuously identify opportunities to improve production flow, scheduling accuracy, and communication between departments.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in manufacturing, production planning, scheduling, operations, or supply chain is preferred.
- Experience in CNC machining, aerospace manufacturing, or another high-mix manufacturing environment is an asset.
- Strong organizational and follow-up skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and production orders simultaneously.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify scheduling risks before they become delivery issues.
- Comfortable communicating with production personnel, management, purchasing, engineering, and quality teams.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience working with ERP/MRP or production scheduling systems is an asset.
- Ability to read basic manufacturing documentation, drawings, routers, and work orders is an asset.
What We Are Looking For The ideal candidate is someone who takes ownership of the production schedule rather than simply reporting on it. You should be comfortable walking the shop floor, speaking directly with different departments, following up on outstanding items, and ensuring that everyone has the information needed to keep production moving. You will be successful in this role if you are proactive, detail-oriented, persistent, and able to quickly identify when material, production, quality, or outside processing could put a customer delivery at risk.
