Thyssen Mining is currently seeking a Project Engineer for a project in British Columbia. The Project Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing mining, construction, and infrastructure projects in support of underground and surface operations. This role provides technical expertise, project coordination, cost control, scheduling, quality assurance, and contractor management to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.

The Project Engineer works closely with operations, technical services, procurement, contractors, and project stakeholders to support the successful delivery of capital and operational projects while maintaining compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations and company safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Execution

- Assist in developing project scopes, work packages, schedules, budgets, and execution plans.
- Coordinate engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.
- Monitor project progress and ensure milestones are achieved.
- Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Support project forecasting and provide regular status updates.

Technical Support

- Review engineering drawings, specifications, reports, and design packages.
- Provide field engineering support during construction and underground development activities.
- Coordinate with technical services, survey, geology, and operational teams.
- Assist with engineering calculations, quantity take-offs, and site investigations.
- Support change management processes and document control requirements.

Cost Control & Reporting

- Track project expenditures against approved budgets.
- Assist with procurement planning, bid reviews, and contractor evaluations.
- Monitor contractor productivity and performance.
- Prepare progress reports, variance analyses, and project dashboards.




- Support monthly forecasting and cost reporting.

Contractor & Stakeholder Coordination

- Coordinate contractors, consultants, suppliers, and internal departments.
- Facilitate project meetings and maintain meeting records.
- Ensure stakeholder requirements are communicated and addressed.
- Monitor project deliverables and compliance with contractual obligations.

Quality Assurance

- Verify work is completed according to engineering specifications and company standards.
- Conduct field inspections and quality audits.
- Track deficiencies and support corrective action implementation.
- Maintain project documentation and records.

Health, Safety & Environmental

- Demonstrate a strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
- Ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations, company policies, and site procedures.
- Participate in risk assessments, job hazard analyses, and safety meetings.
- Support environmental and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Education

- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a related discipline.
- EIT designation or eligibility for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) preferred.
- P.Eng designation considered an asset.

Experience

- 3 to 8 years of project engineering experience in mining, construction, heavy industrial, or infrastructure projects.




- Experience supporting capital projects in underground mining environments preferred.
- Experience working in remote or FIFO mining operations is an asset.

Skills & Abilities

- Solid project management and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project management software (MS Project, Primavera P6, or similar).
- Experience interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Strong budgeting, scheduling, and cost-control capabilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

Certifications & Requirements

- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.
- Eligible to work in Canada.
- Current WHMIS certification.
- CSTS-2020 preferred.
- First Aid certification considered an asset.
- Ability to obtain and maintain site access requirements.

Working Conditions

- Site-based, FIFO, or rotational schedule depending on project requirements.
- Frequent travel to project sites within British Columbia.
- Combination of office, surface construction, and underground work environments.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and active mining environments.
