Operations Manager – Millwork & Custom Cabinetry

NCK Millwork, specializing in the design, manufacturing, and installation of custom cabinetry, millwork, and interior finishes, is seeking an experienced and highly capable Operations Manager to join our team in Vaughan, Ontario.

Position Overview The Operations Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, supervising, and controlling project operations from approved design through manufacturing, delivery, and final installation.

This position plays a key role in coordinating Design, Purchasing, Production, Finishing, Installation, and After-Sales Service while ensuring projects are completed on schedule, meet company quality standards, remain within budget, and are executed efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

Project Management & Planning

● Plan, schedule, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

● Manage shop capacity and allocate resources effectively.

● Prioritize projects based on production requirements and delivery schedules.

● Continuously monitor project progress and update schedules as required.

● Identify project risks, delays, and operational obstacles and take appropriate action to resolve them.

● Ensure projects are completed according to established timelines.

Operations & Production Management

● Plan and oversee manufacturing processes.

● Manage and coordinate daily shop operations.

● Allocate labour based on project and production requirements.

● Monitor production capacity and identify operational bottlenecks.

● Improve workforce and equipment productivity.

● Reduce wasted time, materials, and rework.

● Contribute to the continuous improvement of operational and manufacturing processes.

Cross-Department Coordination

● Coordinate effectively between Design, Purchasing, Production, Finishing, Installation, and After-Sales Service.

● Ensure accurate and timely transfer of information and documentation between departments.

● Follow up on project requirements through completion.

● Manage and coordinate project changes throughout execution.

● Resolve communication and operational issues between departments.

Quality Control

● Ensure compliance with company quality standards throughout the manufacturing process.

● Review product quality prior to delivery and installation.

● Identify and follow up on the root causes of quality issues.

● Reduce rework, material waste, and costs resulting from production errors.

Purchasing, Supply & Material Management

● Coordinate the ordering of materials required for projects.

● Ensure required materials are available before production begins.

● Monitor inventory of required materials.

● Follow up on procurement and timely delivery of project materials.

● Maintain effective communication with suppliers and assist in resolving supply-related issues.

Reporting & Process Improvement

● Prepare and maintain project status reports.

● Provide periodic management reports.

● Monitor project timelines, costs, and progress.

● Document important processes,



changes, and project decisions.

● Recommend practical improvements to increase productivity and operational efficiency.

● Contribute to the standardization and continuous improvement of company processes.

Required Qualifications

● Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in the cabinetry, kitchen, or millwork industry, including experience in production planning, project coordination, or operations management.

● Strong understanding of cabinetry and millwork manufacturing, assembly, finishing, and installation processes.

● Ability to read, review, and verify shop drawings.

● Practical experience in project planning, scheduling, resource management, progress tracking, and coordinating multiple projects simultaneously.

● Experience using project management and scheduling software, such as Microsoft Project, Monday.com, ClickUp, Smartsheet, Asana, or similar platforms.

● Experience managing teams and coordinating across multiple departments.

● Strong ability to prioritize, make decisions, and solve problems in a production workplace.

● Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with customers, designers, contractors, suppliers, and internal teams.

● Excellent command of English, both written and spoken, including professional business communication.

● Hands-on experience with Mozaik Software and familiarity with its application in cabinetry and millwork production is a significant advantage.

Responsibilities

- Develop detailed digital millwork designs using advanced design software, incorporating precise measurements and aesthetic considerations.
- Lead the shop team in manufacturing custom woodwork, ensuring adherence to design specifications, quality standards, and safety protocols.
- Manage daily shop operations, including scheduling, inventory control, and workflow optimization to maximize productivity.
- Collaborate closely with clients, architects, and interior designers to interpret project requirements and present compelling visual concepts through sketches and digital renderings.
- Oversee the use of CAD (Computer-Aided Design) tools for creating accurate shop drawings and technical documentation.
- Coordinate procurement of materials and liaise with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of quality components.
- Maintain meticulous records of project progress, revisions, and quality inspections throughout the production process.

Requirements

- Proven experience in millwork design or woodworking shop management with a strong portfolio demonstrating relevant projects.
- Proficiency in digital design tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, SketchUp, Maya, and other Adobe Creative Suite applications.
- Solid understanding of graphic design principles, typography, visual arts painting techniques, and 3D modeling/animation including 3D animation and 2D animation software.
- Familiarity with CAD software for technical drawings; experience with construction painting is a plus.
- Knowledge of HTML and CSS is advantageous for integrating digital presentations or web-based project documentation.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with clients, team members, and suppliers.
