Position Summary The Purchaser is responsible for ensuring materials and services are available to support production and customer requirements while maintaining appropriate inventory levels. This role manages supplier relationships, purchasing activities, cost improvement initiatives, new product sourcing, and supply continuity to support business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Purchasing & Production Support
- Procure materials, components, equipment, and services in support of operational requirements.
- Create, maintain, and expedite purchase orders to ensure on-time delivery.
- Monitor inventory levels, supplier commitments, and material requirements to prevent shortages and support production continuity.
- Collaborate with Planning, Production, Logistics, Engineering, and other departments to align purchasing activities with business needs.
- Ensure purchasing, inventory, and supplier records are accurate and maintained within the ERP system.
2. Supplier & Sourcing Management
- Identify, evaluate, select, and develop suppliers to support business requirements.
- Maintain supplier relationships and manage supplier performance related to cost, quality, delivery, service, and packaging.
- Develop alternate and secondary sourcing strategies to reduce supply risk and ensure continuity of supply.
- Resolve supplier-related issues and work with internal teams to implement corrective actions and approved supplier or material changes.
- Develop and maintain supplier scorecards and support continuous improvement initiatives.
3. Cost Management & Strategic Sourcing
- Conduct RFQs and negotiate pricing, lead times, freight, payment terms, and other commercial agreements.
- Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities while supporting overall supplier performance.
- Monitor market conditions, commodity trends,
and supply chain risks affecting assigned categories.
- Support reporting and documentation of cost savings, sourcing activities, and purchasing performance metrics.
4. New Product & Continuous Improvement
- Support Engineering, R&D;, and commercial teams with supplier identification, quotations, costing, samples, prototypes, and sourcing for new products and customer programs.
- Coordinate sourcing activities during product launches and engineering changes.
- Identify opportunities to improve purchasing processes, inventory performance, supplier visibility, and planning effectiveness.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong negotiation, supplier management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Excel.
- Experience sourcing steel, aluminum, fabricated metal components, or other industrial metals is considered an asset.
- Experience with international sourcing, customs, tariffs, or freight logistics is considered an asset.
- Postsecondary education in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.

Job Type: Full-time Pay: $60,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
