The Role The Quality Assurance & Food Safety Supervisor is a hands-on technical leader responsible for maintaining and improving the company’s Quality and Food Safety Management System. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Quality & Food Safety, this role serves as the site subject matter expert for HACCP, food safety compliance, quality assurance programs, and audit readiness.
Working closely with Operations, Sanitation, Maintenance, Supply Chain, and Leadership teams, the Supervisor identifies and mitigates food safety and quality risks while supporting regulatory compliance and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Food Safety & HACCP System Management
- Maintain and improve the facility HACCP/Preventive Control Plan.
- Lead hazard analyses, validations, verifications, reassessments, and change evaluations.
- Ensure effective monitoring and verification of CCPs and preventive controls.
- Oversee allergen control and environmental monitoring programs.
- Lead mock recalls and support recall preparedness activities.
Program Oversight & Compliance
- Maintain prerequisite programs including GMPs, sanitation, pest control, calibration, training, and document control.
- Verify sanitation effectiveness through inspections, record reviews, and trend analysis.
- Review audits, complaints, deviations, and testing results to identify trends and risks.
- Ensure procedures, records, and documentation remain accurate and compliant.
Audits & Regulatory Readiness
- Conduct internal audits and GMP inspections.
- Support customer, regulatory, and third-party audits.
- Investigate findings, implement corrective actions, and verify effectiveness.
- Maintain a state of audit readiness across all food safety programs.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Provide guidance and technical support to cross-functional teams.
- Support employee onboarding and food safety training.
- Promote accountability, food safety culture, and continuous improvement.
- Participate in site meetings and communicate food safety risks and opportunities.
Continuous Improvement
- Analyze data and trends to identify improvement opportunities.
- Support process changes, equipment trials, and food safety initiatives.
- Recommend solutions that improve food safety, quality, and operational effectiveness.
- Leverage technology and best practices to strengthen systems and performance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a HACCP-controlled food manufacturing or catering environment.
- Strong knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, prerequisite programs, and Canadian food regulations.
- Experience with SQF, BRC, or other GFSI-benchmarked standards.
- Proven experience maintaining HACCP plans and food safety programs.
- Ability to work with auditors, CFIA/Public Health inspectors, suppliers, and customers.
- Internal Auditor Certification required.
- PCQI certification and additional food safety credentials are considered assets.

Physical & Workplace Requirements
- Regular presence in production, warehouse, sanitation, and cold storage environments.
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs.
- Use of PPE and ability to work in varying temperature conditions.

Salary: $70,000 – 85,000 per year
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Flexibility is required to support operational needs, training, investigations, audits, and employee engagement activities across shifts.)
