The Recruitment Specialist will lead full-cycle recruitment efforts with a strong focus on attracting, engaging, and hiring skilled trades talent. Reporting to the Director of HR and Health & Safety, this role will be responsible for building relationships with educational institutions and industry partners, creating standardized hiring processes, and supporting managers throughout the recruitment lifecycle. The successful candidate will bring creativity, persistence, and a passion for finding talent in a highly competitive market.
This is a full-time, permanent, position out of our Dartmouth, Calgary or Edmonton office (preferred).
Key Responsibilities
Talent Acquisition & Recruitment
- Manage full-cycle recruitment for high-priority and hard-to-fill positions, including:
- Truck and Transport Technicians (Licensed and Apprentice)
- Heavy-Duty Equipment Installers
- Review resumes and applications to identify qualified candidates.
- Conduct phone screens and initial candidate assessments.
- Coordinate and facilitate interviews with hiring managers.
- Present candidate recommendations and hiring insights to managers.
Recruitment Strategy & Process Development
- Design, implement, and continuously improve recruitment processes, tools, and best practices.
- Develop standardized interview guides, evaluation forms, and candidate assessment tools.
- Create and maintain talent pipelines for critical positions.
- Track recruitment metrics and provide recommendations to improve hiring effectiveness.
- Support employer branding initiatives to strengthen Parts for Trucks' presence in the talent market.
Sourcing & Talent Attraction
- Research and implement innovative sourcing strategies to reach skilled trades candidates.
- Identify and leverage new job boards, social media platforms, industry networks, and recruitment technologies.
- Develop targeted recruitment campaigns for difficult-to-fill roles.
- Build passive candidate pipelines and maintain ongoing engagement with prospective talent.
Educational & Community Partnerships
- Establish and maintain relationships with colleges, trade schools, apprenticeship programs, and industry associations.
- Coordinate participation in career fairs, recruitment events, and campus outreach initiatives.
- Promote Parts for Trucks as an employer of choice within the skilled trades community.
- Develop apprenticeship and co-op recruitment strategies.
Hiring Manager Partnership
- Act as a trusted recruitment advisor to hiring managers.
- Facilitate intake meetings to understand workforce needs and hiring requirements.
- Provide guidance on interviewing best practices, candidate evaluation, and hiring decisions.
- Support workforce planning initiatives and future talent forecasting.
Qualifications
Required
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business, or a related field.
- 3+ years of recruitment or talent acquisition experience.
- Experience recruiting for skilled trades, technical,
industrial, transportation, or service-based roles.
- Strong interviewing, assessment, and candidate evaluation skills.
- Experience sourcing candidates through multiple channels, including social media and networking.
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple requisitions in a fast-paced workplace.
Preferred
- CPHR designation or working toward designation.
- Experience recruiting Heavy Duty Equipment / automotive Technicians or other skilled trades.
- Knowledge of apprenticeship programs and workforce development initiatives.
- Experience using applicant tracking systems and recruitment analytics.
What Success Looks Like
Within the first 12 months, the Recruitment Specialist will:
- Develop robust talent pipelines for technicians/apprentices.
- Establish partnerships with key trade schools and training institutions.
- Implement standardized interview guides and recruitment processes across the organization.
- Expand Parts for Trucks' recruitment presence through new sourcing channels and platforms.
- Improve time-to-fill and quality-of-hire metrics for critical roles.
- Become a trusted recruitment partner to hiring managers across the business.
