About The Role As a Surgery RVT at AECFV, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures and the well-being of our patients. You will work alongside a skilled and collaborative team in a fast-paced, high-quality care environment. Day-to-day Responsibilities Include
- Conduct pre-surgical examinations and obtain medical histories
- Administer pre-anesthetic medications and monitor patient responses
- Insert and manage IV catheters for fluid therapy and medication administration
- Sterilize and prepare surgical instruments and equipment
- Assist with tissue handling, retraction,
and other intraoperative tasks as directed
- Adjust anesthesia levels and administer additional medications as needed
- Provide postoperative care, including pain management and wound care
- Ensure the surgical suite is disinfected and ready for the next procedure
- Counsel clients on postoperative care instructions and provide patient updates
- Accurately document all aspects of the surgical procedure, including anesthesia records, patient monitoring data, and postoperative care
- Help mentor visiting practicum students and peers
Qualifications You are a Registered Veterinary Technologist with surgical experience who is passionate about surgical and perioperative care for small animals. You bring compassion and professionalism to every interaction and thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
- Dedicated to excellent patient care with strong technical skills and attention to detail
- Proficient in anesthesia administration and monitoring, including mathematical calculations for drug doses and CRIs
- Committed to maintaining professional registration and continuing education
- Strong team player with excellent oral and written communication skills
- Accurate, organized, flexible, and able to take initiative
- Physically able to meet the demands of the role: holding or carrying weight for extended periods, standing for extended periods, bending, crouching, and lifting.
Schedule
- Anticipated usual schedule of four 10-hour shifts on weekday days
- Occasional ER shifts expected (potentially including nights, stats, and weekends)
Pay Compensation & Benefits
- $30–40/hr based on experience
- Evening and overnight shift premiums if applicable
