3DBioFibR Inc., founded in 2020, is a growing biotechnology company currently located in the heart of Halifax, Nova Scotia. We produce high-performance biofibers that enable product developers to unlock new solutions.
Collagen fibers produced using our patented dry-spinning technology recapitulate the biomechanical and biochemical properties of natural collagen structures. With a fully automated manufacturing system, we are the first to produce collagen fibers at commercial scales for a variety of tissue engineering applications, including additives for 3D bioprinting and hydrogels, and cellular scaffolds for 2D and 3D cell and tissue culture.

About the Role
Join 3DBioFibR as a Research Assistant, supporting the research, development, optimization, and validation of biomaterials and manufacturing processes. In this role, you will be working collaboratively with scientists, engineers, and cross-functional teams to execute laboratory experiments, analyze data, maintain accurate documentation, and contribute to the advancement of cutting-edge products from research through manufacturing readiness. This position will report to the Research Lead, assisting other Leads as needed.
This is a full-time, on-site position located in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.
Responsibilities
Research & Development
- Design and execute laboratory experiments in accordance with approved protocols and project objectives.
- Prepare, process, and characterize biomaterials and research samples.
- Support the development, optimization, and scale-up of manufacturing processes as needed.
- Perform physical and mechanical testing of materials.
- Collect, analyze, interpret,
and summarize experimental data.
- Troubleshoot technical challenges and recommend process improvements.
- Assist with technology transfer activities from research into design and development.
Laboratory Operations
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized laboratory environment.
- Prepare laboratory reagents, buffers, and test solutions.
- Operate, calibrate, and perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment.
- Monitor laboratory inventory and coordinate the procurement of consumables and supplies.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals and research materials.
Documentation & Quality
- Maintain complete, accurate, and timely laboratory records in an electronic notebook (ELN).
- Prepare technical reports, protocols, and experimental summaries.
- Follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions.
- Assist in the creation and revision of laboratory documentation.
- Support investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with the company's Quality Management System (QMS).
Qualifications and Skills
Required
- 1–3 years of laboratory experience in an academic or industrial setting.
- Experience executing laboratory experiments and documenting results.
Preferred
- Bachelor's degree in science or engineering.
- Experience with biomaterials, polymers, tissue engineering, biotechnology, textile engineering, or medical devices.
- Experience working within a Quality Management System (ISO 9001 and/or ISO 13485).
Experience with one or more of the following is considered an asset:
- Biomaterial processing and characterization
- Polymer science
- Mechanical testing
- Microscopy and imaging techniques
- Laboratory instrumentation and calibration
- Statistical analysis and data interpretation
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Electronic Laboratory Notebooks (ELN)
