Faculty/Department Faculty of Education Unit Education-Other Employee Group CUPE 2419 CUPE 5791 Job Family Category Student Number of Vacancies 1 Position Summary The Managing Editor of in education oversees the entire production process of the journal, from the time that the content is approved by the Academic Editor-in-Chief until the electronic issues are made available to the public.
The duties of the managing editor include:
- Provides overall liaison with the Editor-in-Chief and Technical Administrators.
- Copy editing manuscripts for quality assurance purposes, to ensure clarity, and adherence to the specific journal style and APA standards.
- Liaises with authors during the various workflow stages (as required), including facilitating processes such as obtaining copyright permissions, making changes to and clarification of manuscript text, etc.
- Co-ordinates and supervises the design, formatting, and proofreading stages, and ensures integration of design and content.
- As a member of the Editorial Board, is committed to the ongoing quality and reputation of the journal.
- Liaises with the Academic Editor and other members of the Editorial Team for all matters relating to the journal’s content and management.
- Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements The managing editor position is for one year (Sept 1, 2026- Aug 31, 2027) with the possibility of extending for a second year, with a time commitment of, on average, 20-30 hours per month. The journal publishes three issues each year so the hours associated with the position will not be evenly distributed across the 12 months of the position. The ideal candidate for this position of managing editor will have the following qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a graduate program at the University of Regina; preference will be given to doctoral students
- Experience in digital design and website management, including knowledge working and publishing in HTML (e.g., Dreamweaver) and experience with online publishing platforms (e.g., OJS)
- Exceptional command of English language writing and communication
- Flexible schedule and willingness to distribute hours associated with the position to adapt to timelines required for journal production
- Scholarly editing experience (copy editing, production, publishing), as demonstrated by having served previously in an editorial capacity with another peer-reviewed publication, or equivalent
