Job Summary
Financial Services is a core service unit of the University, providing services in areas of financial accounting, budgeting, procurement and risk management, cash management, and financial systems and policies. Reporting to the Assistant Manager, Research and Special Purpose Accounting, the Research Grant Administrator is responsible for the general financial administration of a selection of agency funded research grants for the university.
Key Responsibilities
- Working in an increasingly complex environment, monitor grant accounts on a daily basis and serve as a resource person to principal investigators, administrators and support staff involved in assigned projects.
- Liaise with various internal and external stakeholders and serve as a resource person in order to interpret policies and regulations of the University, agencies, and partners, and the contracts/agreements with agencies and partners,
enforcing as required.
- Provide support and assistance to faculty and staff concerning correct procedures for payment of goods and services and interpretation of the online financial reports.
- Monitor expenditures through the accounts to ensure the Funding Agency requirements/external restrictions are met and to ensure funding is available.
- Prepare financial statements and invoices for research grants.
- Compile financial information and analysis as directed by senior leaders.
Note The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work from within Nova Scotia) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in a field such as business, plus three years’ related experience (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Demonstrate ability to handle complex and confidential matters with excellent judgement, discretion and tact and ability to multitask with frequent interruptions.
- Solid analytical and interpersonal skills, attention to detail in a high-volume environment.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, with extensive experience with Excel spreadsheets.
