About the role

We are looking for a Research & Development Director to lead innovation and product development at Good Protein, from concept through to commercialization. You will drive the full formulation pipeline across our powders, RTDs and emerging functional formats, while constantly balancing taste, texture, product integrity and profitability.

This role suits an experienced R&D; professional who can translate Marketing and Retail briefs into concrete formulation work, manage multiple projects in parallel with tight timelines, and lead a team in a fast-paced, founder-led environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Drive the end-to-end innovation pipeline: from concept feasibility through formulation, lab trials, scale-up and commercialization, across powders, RTDs and emerging functional formats.

- Lead reformulation and cost-reduction work that protects taste, texture and product integrity while improving margin and supply chain resilience.





- Develop ingredient strategy from a technical standpoint: evaluate new ingredients, qualify replacement alternatives and reduce supply chain risk without compromising organoleptic profile.

- Produce the technical documentation and justifications the QA/QC team needs to manage the regulatory pathway and approve claims.

- Provide cross-functional project leadership: translate Marketing and Retail briefs into executable formulation work with realistic timelines, then hold those timelines against Operations and copacker constraints.

- Provide team leadership and development.

Qualifications

- 10-15+ years of experience in R&D; or product development in the consumer goods sector. Experience in the supplements industry, functional nutrition, natural products, protein powders or beverages is a solid asset.

- Proven experience managing cross-functional projects under tight timelines.

- Strong knowledge of ingredient functionality, cost optimization and sourcing-driven reformulation without compromising taste or texture.

- A genuine team leader.

- Comfortable in a fast-moving, founder-led environment where priorities shift and speed matters.

- Experience supporting a US market entry or multi-market product strategy (asset).

- Knowledge of Health Canada (NPN) and/or FDA regulatory frameworks for food and supplements, managed by the QA/QC team but useful as context (asset).

- Experience scaling formats from lab to copacker production (asset).
