Respite Worker (Part-time)

We are currently seeking a Respite Worker to provide support to a 5 year old boy with Autism, an Intellectual Disability and is currently battling a childhood illness.

Employment Status: Part-time (1-2 times a week for 2-3 hour shifts).

Schedule: Preference for a 12pm start time, flexibility required for days.

Location: Winnipeg, Manitoba

Responsibilities

● Building a rapport and showing interest in cars and other toys or games he would like to play with.

● Personal care assistance with diaper changes, dressing and possibly some oral feeding.

● Some assistance with mobility throughout the apartment.

●Setting up and administering NG tube feeding. Respite staff will need to help making the time pass by during the feeding enjoyable and fun.

● Maintain good communication and rapport with the family (Mother) and report any issues that may arise.

Required Skills and Experience

The following would be considered an asset to this position, however we are willing to train the right candidate.

● Experience in the disability field and or experience with Autism

● Experience with children and childhood illness

● Experience with NG tube feeding The successful candidate must:





● Be comfortable learning the support needs of the boy and be versatile as these needs may change from week to week.

● Be fluent in English with strong verbal and written communication skills

● Understand non-verbal communication

● Strong decision making and judgment ability

● High standards of ethics, accountability, dependability, and integrity

● Ability to adapt in response to changing needs and environments

● Be kind, patient, and easy-going.

●Be aware and thoughtful of noise and sensory sensitivity.

Other Requirements

● Clear Criminal Record Check required

● Clear Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check required

● First Aid/CPR Required
