About the Role The Retail Associate supports the effective day-to-day store operations by providing welcoming and inclusive customer service, processing sales and donations, maintaining organized and appealing retail spaces, and contributing to safe and efficient store operations.
As part of the ReUse team, this role contributes to E3‘s commitment to community inclusion, sustainability and social responsibility by supporting responsible diversion of donated goods while contributing to a positive experience for customers, donors, volunteers and community members. This includes working alongside volunteers, including individuals who may receive services from E3, to participate meaningfully in a retail environment. Through a person-directed approach, the role promotes choice, contribution, skill development and independence.

Key Skills and Capabilities The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Robust customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact respectfully and professionally with customers, donors, volunteers and community members
- Cash-handling and point-of-sale experience, with the ability to accurately process transactions and follow established procedures
- The ability to work independently with limited supervision while contributing positively and reliably as part of a team
- Strong communication skills and the ability to adapt communication, instruction and practical support to individual abilities and needs
- The ability to support social media efforts to promote E3 values and need for donations
- The ability to support volunteers in completing meaningful retail and operational tasks while promoting independence, choice and skill development
- Initiative, reliability and sound judgment, with the ability to follow established operational, health and safety, accessibility and organizational requirements
Experience in retail, customer service, thrift or second-hand retail, or a related environment is preferred. Experience working or volunteering in a non-profit or community-based environment and/or alongside volunteers or individuals with varying abilities is considered an asset. An interest in sustainability, recycling and waste diversion is also an asset. Person-Directed Services

Working Conditions and Expectations
This role includes the following working conditions:
Work location: Retail environment
Schedule: Work schedules are established based on operational requirements and may include weekends and other store operating hours as required
This is an active retail environment involving sales, donation receiving and back-room activities. Regular standing and walking are required, frequent reaching, bending, carrying, sorting, stocking and movement of merchandise/donated goods.
May involve repetitive physical activity and movement of items of varying sizes and weights up to 25 lbs, using appropriate equipment, safe work practices and assistance where required.
Donated goods may arrive in varying conditions and may involve exposure to dust, odours and other environmental conditions typical of a donation-based retail environment.
