Description The Information Technologies is currently seeking a Full-time Temporary Relief RPA, Developer for approximately 12 months.

Technologies (IT) provides computing, network and media services in support of learning, teaching, research and administration at the University of Calgary. The RPA Developer is a key technical contributor within the University of Calgary's Information Technologies (IT) organization.

Reporting to the RPA Lead Application Architect, the RPA Developer works 35 hours per week and is a part of the AUPE bargaining unit. This position supports the Robotic Process Automation (RPA) service within the ERP Systems & Services team. This team operates in a complex, multi platform environment encompassing PeopleSoft applications (HCM, Finance & Supply Chain, ELM, Campus Solutions), enterprise integrations, and associated Blue Prism RPA solutions.

The work involves a combination of independent software development, solution analysis, troubleshooting, documentation, and collaboration with business users. The developer works both independently and as part of the RPA Center of Excellence (COE). Assignments are completed with minimal supervision, receiving program level guidance from Lead RPA Architect.

The position requires strong analytical thinking, problem solving, and the ability to work through ambiguity while supporting concurrent initiatives with multiple stakeholders.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Automation Analysis, Design & Documentation

- Participate in process discovery sessions with BAs, SMEs, and business units.
- Perform feasibility analysis to identify automatable components, constraints, and risks.
- Produce and maintain Process Design Documents (PDDs) and Solution Design Documents (SDDs).
- Create and maintain runbooks, Visio workflow diagrams, and other technical documentation for new and updated automations.
- Break down business processes into modular objects and reusable components aligned with COE standards.
- Support validation and testing of ERP queries by collaborating with functional teams.

Software Development & Enhancement
- Participate in Agile/Scrum delivery including sprint planning, task updates in JIRA, and delivery of work aligned with sprint goals.
- Participate in Scrum ceremonies, update JIRA tasks, and deliver work aligned with sprint goals.
- Design, build, configure, test, and deploy automations using established RPA tools and development standards.
- Implement enhancements and change requests,



ensuring alignment with coding best practices and security requirements.
- Conduct unit testing, prepare test data, and ensure full test coverage across all automation components.
- Develop and maintain reusable code objects and Visual Business Objects (VBOs) to support consistent, scalable development.
- Contribute to best practice documentation, including design standards, naming conventions, and exception handling patterns.
- Perform peer code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of review criteria and development standards.

Operational Sustainment & Troubleshooting
- Act as a first point of contact for RPA related incidents and inquiries, providing timely triage and resolution.
- Manage ServiceNow tickets for incidents, requests, and enhancements, ensuring proper documentation and closure.
- Monitor and maintain RPA infrastructure components such as Control Room, schedulers, environment configurations, credentials, and platform upgrades.
- Troubleshoot production automations, analyze system logs and perform root causes analysis for failures.
- Execute hyper care for new deployments, closely monitoring early life performance and applying rapid fixes when required. Track automation performance and recommend improvements to increase stability, efficiency, and business value.
- Quality Management & COE Governance
- Apply COE development standards, documentation templates, and governance practices consistently across all automation work.
- Provide structured feedback to improve COE standards, templates, and methodologies.
- Participate in RPA practitioner forums and internal knowledge sharing initiatives to promote best practices and continuous improvement.
- Support environmental compliance activities, periodic audits, and security or operational checks as required.

Team Collaboration & Mentorship
- Provide onboarding assistance, guidance, and hands on mentorship to interns or junior developers.
- Collaborate effectively with ERP Application Support, QA, Infrastructure, Security, and other IT teams to deliver stable and scalable automations.
- Share best practices and lessons learned with team members and contribute to a collaborative, learning oriented team culture.

Qualifications / Requirements Education & Experience

- Completion of a post secondary degree or diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Typically 3-5 years of progressive software development experience, including at least 3 years in RPA development. Experience working in structured IT environments with development standards, SDLC processes, and change management practices.

Technical Skills
- Designing, developing, testing, and deploying automations using RPA platforms (UiPath, Blue Prism, or equivalent).
- Producing SDDs/PDDs and interpreting business requirements into technical designs.
- Software engineering practices: modular design, reusable components, exception handling, and source control.
- NET (C#, VB) and/or Java; APIs/JSON/REST; MVC principles and enterprise application patterns.
- Windows Server operations, services, logging, and basic troubleshooting in support of the RPA environments.
- Agile or iterative development experience.

Interpersonal Competencies




- Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise directly with business stakeholders, BAs, SMEs, and cross functional teams.
- Ability to work independently on assigned automations, with minimal supervision, while escalating risks appropriately.
- Ability to provide knowledge transfer, onboarding support, or informal mentorship to interns or junior developers.
