POSITION TITLE: Scale Operations Attendant
DEPARTMENT: Westlock Regional Waste Management Operations
POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Commission Manager, this employee would perform scale house operations such as screening/identifying loads of waste, directing patrons to unloading & storage areas, educating patrons about recyclable materials, and other scale house maintenance/operations.
POSITION REPORTS TO: Commission Manager or their designate
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the general direction of the Commission Manager and/or Team Leads, the employee is responsible for
· Learning department operations and how to carry out tasks and functions of the position, such as becoming oriented and familiar with all tools and equipment prior to use. Supervisory review may be required for certain tasks.
· Adhering to safety standards under the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Commission Policies and Procedures, and WHMIS & TDG guidelines.
· Controlling traffic entering and exiting the WRWMC facility which includes patrons, commercial haulers, as well as contractors.
· Identifying/screening loads of waste brought in by residents and commercial haulers of waste/recyclables. Directing patrons to the appropriate disposal or storage area for the waste materials brought in.
· Operating the office computer software for the scale, entering incoming/outgoing weights for loads of waste, printing tickets/receipts and taking payments at Point-of-Sale machine, printing reports, updating accounts and other miscellaneous administrative duties.
· Reporting all damages and/or injuries to themselves, the public, other staff, and WRWMC property immediately to the Commission Manager and/or Team Leads and completing written incident report(s).
· Interacting with patrons and other WRWMC staff in a professional and effective manner, using a pleasant demeanor and sound judgement. Referring any complex inquires to the Team Leads and/or Commission Manager.
· Showing initiative by undertaking appropriate tasks without supervisory assignment, displaying a willingness to learn and be trained in new areas, and striving towards obtaining job experience.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Days and hours of work may vary depending on requirements of the WRWMC Facility and directives of the Commission Manager. Employee is expected to arrive on site 15 minutes prior to opening. Regular hours of operation are:
Tuesday to Friday 10am to 6pm
Saturday 9am to 5pm
Closed Sundays and General Holidays
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
· Computer literacy is required, experience learning software programs is an asset.
· Good interpersonal skills while working with coworkers, supervisors, and the public.
· Ability to work in a fast-paced work workplace, good organisational skills are essential.
· A valid Class 5 Driver’s License or access to your own transportation to the WRWMC site.
· Provision of a Driver’s Abstract (if applicable).
Equivalencies may be considered.
