We’re Hiring | Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity SurveyorAbout SailySaily Strategic Solutions is a Canadian construction and advisory consultancy built with a startup mentality.
We are growing, ambitious and deliberately building something different from the traditional consultancy model.
Being a startup means we move quickly. Priorities can change. Opportunities appear and we pursue them. Everyone contributes beyond their job title, and good ideas don't need to work their way through five layers of management before they are heard.
If you're looking for a nice, steady pace, this probably isn't the role for you.
We're looking for people who enjoy being busy, taking ownership and figuring things out. People who are comfortable being challenged, adapting when required and helping build the systems, standards and culture of a growing company rather than simply inheriting them.
At Saily, being technically valuable at your job is the starting point.
We want people who are dynamic, entrepreneurial and comfortable being visible. You should be willing to build relationships, attend networking events, represent Saily in the industry, present when opportunities arise and contribute to the continued growth of the business.
You may be leading a Client meeting one day, challenging a Contractor on a commercial position the next, and representing Saily at an industry event later that week.
We're still building.
That means things won't always be perfect. But it also means the people joining us now have an opportunity to genuinely influence what Saily becomes.
If you want structure, predictability and a narrowly defined , there are plenty of great companies that can offer that.
If you want to help build one, we'd like to hear from you.
Saily Strategic Solutions is growing, and we’re looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our team.
This is not a role for someone who simply wants to sit behind a spreadsheet.
We’re looking for a commercially strong, construction-focused professional who is confident working directly with Clients, Consultants and Contractors and can take ownership of the cost and commercial management of complex construction projects.
The successful candidate will ideally bring 6–8 years of relevant construction experience, including significant exposure to projects during the construction phase.
What you'll be doingYou will support and lead cost and commercial management activities across major projects, including:
- Pre- and post-contract cost management
- Cost planning and budget management
- Project cost control and forecasting
- Change management and change control
- Contingency management and drawdown
- Contractor payment review and certification
- Cost reporting and executive-level reporting
- Procurement strategy and implementation
- Tendering, tender analysis and recommendations
- Commercial and contractual review
- Negotiation of changes and contractor submissions
- Supporting project risk and commercial decision-making
You will also be expected to lead Client and Contractor meetings, present commercial information clearly, challenge submissions where appropriate, negotiate effectively and provide Clients with informed recommendations. Strong communication and presentation skills are therefore essential.
What we're looking forMandatory requirements:
- Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Commercial Management or a directly related construction discipline
- Minimum 6 years of relevant industry experience
- RICS or CIQS professional designation/membership
- Strong practical understanding of construction and the construction process
- Demonstrable pre- and post-contract cost management experience
- Experience working directly with Clients and Contractors
- Strong change management, cost control and commercial management capability
- Ability to challenge, negotiate and defend commercial positions professionally
- Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
- Ability and willingness to travel to project sites as required
Experience across interior fit-outs, data centres, major construction and rehabilitation projects would be particularly valuable. Beyond the technical experienceSaily is a growing consultancy, and we're looking for someone who wants to be part of that growth.
We want someone dynamic, outgoing and entrepreneurial, someone comfortable working in a startup environment where you can have a genuine influence on how the business develops.
That means being willing to step outside the traditional QS role: building relationships, networking, attending and presenting at industry events, contributing ideas and helping us continue to grow our presence in the Canadian construction industry.
The opportunity
- Hybrid position
- Project and site-based engagement as required
- Exposure to complex, high-value construction projects
- Direct interaction with Clients, Contractors and senior stakeholders
- Opportunity to take on significant responsibility from day one
- Opportunity to grow alongside an ambitious Canadian consultancy
If you're technically strong, commercially confident, enjoy working with people and want an opportunity where you can help shape the company you're joining, we'd like to hear from you.
