Rate of Pay: $21.01 per hour
Position Status: Part-Time
Join Our Team The Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward (HSHPE) is seeking a compassionate, organized, and motivated individual to join our team as a Part-Time Shelter Supervisor.
This position plays an key leadership role in supporting daily shelter operations, staff and volunteer supervision, animal welfare, customer service, and health and safety compliance. Working closely with the Shelter Manager, the successful candidate will help ensure the shelter operates efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of animal care and community service.

Key ResponsibilitiesShelter Operations & Animal Welfare
● Support the day-to-day operation of the shelter.
● Ensure animals receive appropriate care and treatment.
● Assist with disease prevention and animal welfare protocols.
● Coordinate and support veterinary care.
● Monitor inventory and medication storage.
● Perform facility inspections and assist with maintenance needs.
● Assist in overseeing shelter operations in the absence of the Shelter Manager.
Staff & Volunteer Leadership
● Assist with orienting, training, coaching, and supervising staff and volunteers.
● Support employee performance management and accountability processes.
● Promote compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
● Foster a positive and respectful workplace environment.
Client Service & Adoptions
● Provide professional and compassionate customer service.
● Assist with adoption counselling and application review.
● Process payments, donations, licensing fees, and redemptions.
● Respond to inquiries by phone, email, and in person.
● Maintain accurate records and shelter documentation.
● Handle customer concerns professionally and escalate when required.
Health & Safety
● Promote safe work practices and legislative compliance.
● Support staff and volunteer safety training.
● Assist with incident reporting and workplace inspections.
● Help maintain shelter procedures and emergency response plans.
Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess:
● Experience working in animal care, shelter operations, veterinary services, or a related field.
● Previous leadership, supervisory, or team lead experience is considered an asset.
● Excellent communication and customer service skills.
● Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
● The ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
● Basic computer and record-keeping skills.
● Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
● A strong commitment to animal welfare and HSHPE's mission and values.
● Must have a valid G Driver’s License
Working Conditions
This position is based in an active animal shelter environment and involves regular interaction with animals, exposure to cleaning products and shelter-related conditions, and occasional interaction with distressed members of the public. Physical duties include standing, walking, bending, lifting, and working both indoors and outdoors as required.
