We are seeking a Systems Analyst to support data analysis, reporting, and enterprise application maintenance initiatives across a variety of client environments. This is a hands-on technical role suited to a professional who is comfortable working with SQL and relational databases, while being capable of developing broader skill across business intelligence and systems analysis.
The successful candidate will work with established reporting, database, and enterprise application environments while progressively taking on responsibility for developing and modifying queries, developing dashboards, troubleshooting data and application issues, maintaining technical documentation, and supporting the ongoing operation and improvement of client systems. The role offers exposure to multiple technologies and business environments with the opportunity to contribute as a versatile data and technology consultant.
This opportunity is suitable for both full time employment or contract arrangements.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute, review, troubleshoot, and modify SQL queries to support recurring reporting, data analysis, validation, system investigation, and ad hoc business requests.
- Work with relational databases and operational datasets to investigate data issues, verify results, and maintain accurate reporting and system outputs.
- Support the ongoing operation and maintenance of enterprise applications, databases, and data-management platforms.
- Investigate application, database, reporting, access, configuration, and data issues and work with technical team members to identify and implement appropriate resolutions.
- Assist with user provisioning, permissions, configuration, and other routine application-support activities.
- Monitor application and system processes and assist with identifying workload, performance, data-processing, or operational issues.
- Develop, enhance, and support Power BI dashboards, reports, visualizations, filters,
and interactive reporting functionality.
- Assist with the maintenance and improvement of reporting databases, datasets, data models, and related reporting processes.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including data dictionaries, metadata, query documentation, process documentation, and system-support materials.
- Gather and clarify reporting, data, and system requirements from business and technical stakeholders and translate them into practical technical solutions.
- Develop or maintain lightweight scripts and automation using tools such as Python, PowerShell, VBA, or Power Automate where appropriate.
- Maintain scripts, queries, documentation, configuration files, and other technical assets using source control and collaborative development tools.
- Test and validate reporting, dashboard, query, application, and system changes before deployment or release.
- Support data, code, documentation, or source-control migration activities where required.
- Participate in scheduled production-support or on-call activities where required.
- Contribute to multiple client engagements and adapt to different technology environments, business processes, systems, and project requirements.
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Computer Science, Computer Software Development, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, or a related technical discipline.
- 1-3 years of hands-on professional experience in data analysis, database support, systems analysis, application support, business intelligence, or a related technical role.
- Hands-on experience supporting a production application, database environment, enterprise data platform, or comparable business-critical technology system.
- Working knowledge of SQL and relational database concepts.
- Ability to understand, execute, troubleshoot, and modify existing SQL queries.
- Familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, or another enterprise relational database platform.
- Experience or applied knowledge of Power BI or another business intelligence and reporting platform.
- Ability to systematically investigate data, application, and system issues using available logs, queries, documentation, system information, and other technical resources.
- Ability to learn and support unfamiliar or specialized applications and technologies.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with careful attention to data accuracy and detail.
- Ability to understand technical documentation and independently investigate unfamiliar technical problems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and work effectively within collaborative consulting and project teams.
Desirable Attributes
- Experience developing Power BI dashboards, data models, measures, or interactive reports.
- Experience with SSRS, Microsoft Report Builder, or similar reporting technologies.
- Experience supporting enterprise data-management, monitoring, operational, or time-series systems.
- Experience working with time-series, environmental monitoring, geospatial, sensor, operational, or other complex datasets.
- Experience with Oracle databases and SQL Server environments.
- Exposure to Python, PowerShell, Power Automate, VBA, or other scripting and automation tools.
- Experience with GitHub, Git, Azure DevOps, TFS, JIRA, or similar development and work-management platforms.
- Familiarity with data dictionaries, metadata management, data quality, or technical documentation.
- Experience with user provisioning, access management, application configuration, system monitoring, or production support.
- Familiarity with HTML, CSS, C#, .NET, JavaScript, or other application-development technologies.
- Experience supporting data imports, data transformations, integrations, scheduled processes, or other automated data workflows.
- Interest in using modern AI-assisted development and analytics tools responsibly to accelerate technical work and learning.
- Demonstrated ability to learn unfamiliar technologies independently and apply new knowledge to practical problems.
