About the Role

Alphex is seeking Tactical Security & Undercover Loss Prevention Officers to provide an active, on-foot security presence at grocery retail locations.

This is a hands-on, field-based position focused primarily on foot patrol, visible deterrence, loss prevention, trespassing, loitering, unauthorized activity, theft, and maintaining a safe environment for customers and employees.

This is NOT a CCTV/camera-monitoring position. Officers will spend the majority of their shifts actively patrolling the property, observing activity in person, engaging with individuals when appropriate, and responding to security and loss-prevention concerns.

The ideal candidate is highly observant, physically active, professional, confident, and capable of dealing with challenging situations calmly and respectfully.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct continuous foot patrols throughout the grocery store, entrances, exits, parking areas, and surrounding property.
- Maintain a highly visible security presence to deter theft, vandalism, trespassing, loitering, and other unwanted activity.
- Monitor the property in person rather than through CCTV cameras.
- Identify and address unauthorized individuals or activities in accordance with client procedures and applicable laws.
- Respond to individuals who are trespassing, refusing to leave when lawfully directed, creating disturbances, or otherwise violating store/property rules.
- Address security concerns involving individuals experiencing homelessness, while treating all persons respectfully and professionally.
- Identify and respond to shoplifting and other forms of retail theft.
- Conduct discreet observation and undercover loss-prevention patrols when assigned.
- Monitor high-risk areas and merchandise through direct observation.
- Identify suspicious behaviour, repeat offenders, organized retail theft activity, and other potential sources of loss.
- Respond to aggressive behaviour, disturbances, property damage, and other incidents.
- De-escalate situations whenever possible and avoid unnecessary confrontation.
- Contact management, additional security personnel, emergency services,



or law enforcement when appropriate and authorized.
- Complete detailed incident and occurrence reports.
- Maintain accurate records of patrols, incidents, observations, and interactions.
- Maintain professional communication with store employees, management, customers, and members of the public.
- Follow all applicable laws, licensing requirements, company policies, and client procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding investigations and client security operations.

Undercover Loss Prevention Officers may periodically be assigned to plain-clothes/undercover loss-prevention duties.

Responsibilities may include

- Conducting discreet foot patrols inside the store.
- Observing suspected shoplifting and theft activity.
- Identifying repeat offenders and suspicious patterns.
- Conducting discreet surveillance through direct observation.
- Documenting incidents and observations.
- Coordinating with uniformed security and store management.
- Supporting investigations into retail theft and organized retail crime.

What This Job Is NOT This position is not a security desk job and is not primarily a CCTV-monitoring position.

Officers will not be sitting in a security office watching cameras for the majority of their shift.

The position requires officers to be physically present and actively patrolling on foot, including indoor and outdoor areas of the property.

Qualifications

- Previous experience in retail security, loss prevention, asset protection, security, investigations, or law enforcement is an asset.
- Valid security licence where required by applicable law.
- Robust observation and situational-awareness skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm during confrontational or unpredictable situations.
- Robust de-escalation and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Professional appearance and conduct.
- Strong written communication and report-writing abilities.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.




- Comfortable walking and standing for extended periods.
- Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Physical Requirements This is an active foot-patrol position.

Officers should be prepared to:

- Maintain situational awareness in busy retail environments.
- Work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays where required.
