Temporary Works Inspector
What is the project?
The Pickering Nuclear Generating Station refurbishment program involves designing and building a new deep-water intake in Lake Ontario to improve the plant's cooling system. This will involve:
- A5 km-long tunnel, built by a pressurized TBM (10.5 m diameter slurry TBM);
- Two vertical shafts (onshore and offshore);
- An offshore modular intake structure, resting on the lake bed.
The project is distinguished by its proximity to an active nuclear site, requiring rigorous standards of safety, planning and coordination
What you will do
As a Temporary Works Inspector, you will support the Temporary Works Engineer and Coordinator in the inspection, verification, and monitoring of temporary works during the construction lifecycle. You will ensure that temporary works are installed, maintained, and dismantled in accordance with approved designs, project specifications, safety requirements, and applicable Ontario regulations.
You will support the project's Temporary Works department to ensure temporary works are safe, compliant, and fit for purposes.
Concretely, your tasks will be:
Temporary Works Inspection & Verification
- Support the Temporary Works Engineer and Coordinator in implementing the Temporary Works Management Process on the project.
- Conduct inspections of temporary works before first use, following modifications, and at required intervals.
- Verify that temporary works are installed in accordance with approved drawings, engineering requirements, method statements, and project procedures.
- Inspect temporary works including:
- Formwork and falsework;
- Shoring and reshoring systems;
- Excavation support systems;
- Scaffolding and access structures;
- Temporary platforms, barriers, hoarding and protection systems;
- Temporary support and lifting structures.
- Verify that temporary works remains safe, stable, and fit for purpose during their operational life.
Construction Support & Site Integration
- Collaborate with Superintendents, Supervisors, Temporary Works Engineer, Temporary Work Cordinator), subcontractors, and field teams to ensure temporary works are constructed and used as intended.
- Participate in site walks, coordination meetings, and pre-task planning sessions.
- Verify that site conditions remain consistent with design assumptions, including ground conditions, loading requirements,
environmental factors, and access constraints.
- Provide guidance to site teams regarding inspection requirements, hold points, and temporary works limitations.
Inspection, Compliance & Assurance
- Verify compliance with approved temporary works designs, project specifications, construction procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Complete checklists and inspection report before temporary works are placed into service.
- Identify and track deficiencies, non-conformities, and deviations from approved designs.
- Ensure corrective actions are completed and verified before temporary works are used.
Risk & Safety Management
- Support the implementation of project safety requirements and Temporary Works Procedures.
- Immediately report and escalate unsafe conditions, unauthorized modifications, or design deviations to the Temporary Works Coordinator and Project Management Team.
- Promote a strong safety culture across all temporary works activities.
Documentation & Reporting
- Complete the inspection reports, deficiency notices, and recommendations for corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate inspection records, project reports, photographs, and compliance documentation.
- Provide regular updates to the Temporary Works Engineer and Coordinator regarding inspection status, risks, deficiencies, and upcoming inspections.
Your skills:
- Degree in Civil / Structural engineering and/or Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum 8 years of experience in construction or infrastructure projects.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in quality inspection, field engineering, temporary works inspection, or construction supervision.
- Strong knowledge of temporary works systems, including formwork, falsework, scaffolding, shoring, excavation support, and access systems.
- Knowledge of Ontario construction safety regulations is required
- Safety and scaffold inspection certification is considered an asset.
- Strong communication, reporting, and stakeholder skills.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound technical judgment.
- Team-oriented with a proactive approach to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Ontario Skilled Engineer designation is considered a strong asset

The headquarter of VINCI Construction Grands Projets Canada is based in Montréal, Québec. - The construction of the subway line south in Toronto, involving a six-kilometer tunnel and associated excavation work. - Extension of the Confederation Line in Ottawa, one of the components of Phase 2 of the city's O-Train system, which includes the design, construction, and financing of 27.5 km of light rail infrastructure. The work also includes 4 kilometers of cut-and-cover tunnels, 20 engineering structures, 16 stations and a light maintenance facility.
