Job Summary:
The Town of Riverview is currently accepting applications for the position of Transportation & Traffic Supervisor.
The Incumbent will oversee the daily operations planning, maintenance, and improvement of the Town's transportation and traffic systems. The position provides technical leadership and supervision for traffic engineering, transit services, active transportation infrastructure, roadway safety, traffic control devices, street lighting, pavement markings, and signage.
The role serves as the Town's subject matter expert in transportation planning and traffic operations, leading transportation-related capital projects, infrastructure renewal initiatives, policy implementation, and traffic management programs. The incumbent ensures the effective execution of Traffic Committee recommendations, supports evidence-based decision-making through traffic data collection and analysis, and promotes safe, efficient, and sustainable transportation systems that align with the Town's strategic objectives.
The position reports to the Director, Engineering & Public Works.
Requirements:
- University degree in civil engineering or equivalent with a minimum of five (5) years relevant work experience in traffic & transportation engineering, or engineering consulting.
- Certificate from the NB Society of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (NBSCETT), or equivalent in the field related to municipal engineering with a minimum of ten (10) years’ relevant work experience preferably in a municipal, transportation, transit environment, or engineering consulting.
- Members of the APEGNB or NBSCETT in good standing.
- Knowledge of the tendering process, project management and contract administration.
- Project budget development and expenditure control, including development of capital improvement plans.
- Excellent written and spoken English communication skills, strong presentation skills and excellent negotiation skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of GIS, AutoCAD, and traffic software.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & PowerPoint).
- Ability to interpret and implement Town policies and procedures.
- Ability to interpret and implement the NB Occupational Health & Safety Act and WorkSafe NB regulations.
- The ability to communicate in both official languages is considered an asset.
- Attention to details with focus on efficiency and results.
- Valid NB Driver’s license.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of all traffic engineering operations, including the transit system, active transportation, street signs, traffic signals, street lighting, and longitudinal road markings.
- Responsible for assisting and providing technical knowledge in the preparation of capital projects,
including tender specification preparation, and deployment of policy initiatives. Develops both short and long-term infrastructure renewal plans and provides oversight for long-range traffic management plans and capital asset renewal.
- Responsible to administer the operating transit budget.
- Responsible to action all recommendations from the traffic committee. Collect traffic related data as required. Represents the Town on regional traffic committees.
- The incumbent develops and implements practices and procedures to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the Town’s transportation-related systems.
- Demonstrates continuous effort to support the transportation network and growth.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other Town employees and the public using principles of valuable customer service.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required by the Director.
Working Conditions:
- The Incumbent may be required to work non-traditional hours (evenings and weekends and some holidays) as projects require.
- Work environment may include but is not limited to the Operations Centre office and other Town owned facilities, and other outdoor municipal sites (exposure to the elements).
- The incumbent may find the environment to be busy, noisy and will need excellent organizational and stress management skills to complete the required tasks.
- Some travel may be required.
