Job Type:TemporaryDepartment:Hourly Wage:$0.00Close Date (closes at 12:00 am on date noted below):August 24, 2026Openings:50Position SummaryThe Deputy Returning Officer (DRO) oversees the voting location and manages election workers during voting.Major Job ResponsibilitiesSupervises one (1) voting location, including supervision of election workers at the voting locationSets up, opens and closes the voting locationReports any services that are disrupted, incidents that occur or complaints that are made at the voting location to the Town Clerk or designate in a timely manner.Contacts election workers to ensure your team is available to work on the prescribed days and times.Ensures staffing resources, supplies and voting locations layout conforms with the policies and procedures set out by the Town Clerk.Ensures the voting location is free of any candidate or third-party advertiser campaign materials and that such materials are removed from the voting location and propertyAssists electors with disabilities, if requestedSupervises elections workers to ensure proper procedures are being executed.Temporarily backfill an election worker role, if requiredEnsures scrutineers are following guidelines set forth within the voting locationResolves any issues at the voting location escalated by the election workersSecurely stores equipment and materials at the voting location each night during advance polls, if responsible for advance voting locationEnsures election supplies and technology from the voting location are returned to the Town of Milton after closing the last night of advance polls,
and after election nightEducation & ExperiencePrevious election experience is requiredSupervisory experience or previous experience in this role is preferredAccess to a cellphone and vehicle to travel to and from the Town Hall and voting locationAvailability to work long hoursAbility to read and observe voting procedures at the voting location.Strong interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills to resolve issues and communicate solutions to staff and the public in an efficient and timely manner.Ability to learn quickly, follow directions, and complete repetitive duties.Ability to multi-task.Some physical activity and lifting may be required to set up and dismantle the voting placeBe at least 18 years of age on advance poll day or election dayEvent Rate:$420 per day$80 for trainingNote to ApplicantsThis posting is for an existing job vacancy.The Town is an equal prospect employer, committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive, accessible, and respectful workplace.
