Job Summary
Reporting to the Experience Manager, the Tour Guide & Storyteller will create engaging, memorable, and educational experiences for guests visiting Grand Bend Stirling Sands Vineyards. As a front-line ambassador for the winery, this role will guide guests through the property, share the stories behind Stirling Sands, its vineyard, wines, winemaking process, and surrounding region, while creating an approachable and welcoming atmosphere.
The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic communicator and natural storyteller who enjoys connecting with people. They will bring the winery to life through conversation, storytelling, wine knowledge, and genuine hospitality, adapting each experience to the interests and knowledge level of the guests.
Roles and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Experience Manager, the duties and responsibilities of the Tour Guide & Storyteller include, but are not limited to, the following:
Lead engaging, informative, and welcoming winery tours and tastings
Share the story of Grand Bend Stirling Sands Vineyards, including its wines, vineyard, winemaking process, property, and local region
Use storytelling to make wine and vineyard information approachable and memorable for guests of all knowledge levels
Build genuine connections with guests and adapt experiences based on group interests, questions, and dynamics
Develop and maintain strong knowledge of the Stirling Sands wine portfolio, vineyard, property, and guest experiences
Confidently answer guest questions and provide wine recommendations
Promote wines, merchandise, events, and other winery experiences in a natural and guest-focused manner
Maintain tour timing, guest safety, and the cleanliness and organization of experience areas
Assist with tour setup, tastings, special events, private experiences, and seasonal programming
Communicate and collaborate effectively with other departments
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Requirements
Required
Valid Smart Serve certification, or willingness to obtain prior to conducting tastings
Strong communication and storytelling skills with confidence speaking in front of groups
Engaging, approachable, and guest-focused personality
Enthusiasm for learning about wine, winemaking, viticulture, local history, and the Grand Bend Stirling Sands Vineyards brand
Ability to communicate information in an approachable, entertaining, and easy-to-understand way
Ability to adapt to different audiences, guest interests, and group dynamics
Solid organizational, time-management, and teamwork skills
Preferred
Previous experience in hospitality, tourism, wineries, attractions, customer service, public speaking, or a related guest-facing role
Wine education, including WSET Level 1
Previous sales experience
Working Conditions
Position requires extended periods of standing and walking throughout the property
Tours may take place indoors and outdoors in varying seasonal conditions
Must be comfortable speaking to and leading groups of varying sizes
Will be required to work weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
Must maintain awareness of guest safety while working in active winery and production areas
Some lifting, carrying, and setup of tasting and experience materials may be required
