Program Overview This one-year certificate program equips students with the fundamental skills for a career as a cook or chef. Taught by skilled chefs, the curriculum covers a wide range of food preparation techniques, ingredient exploration, and food culture, including local, sustainable, and international cuisines. Graduates will gain core cooking and baking skills, menu planning abilities, and the knowledge needed to succeed in the modern food service industry.

Admission
Requirements - Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent - Grade 12 English (C or U)
- Mature student status (19 years of age or older and no OSSD) - Mature students may take the Admissions Assessment for English or may consider upgrading to achieve the credit(s) needed in English.
Program Specific
Requirements - Students should be aware that various allergens including nuts, dairy and shellfish are routinely used in practical labs. Students should also note that George Brown College is sensitive to religious observances. However, while products purchased for production and consumption meet all provincial and federal regulations, they may not meet specific dietary laws related to halal and kosher foods. Passage does not offer any loan for this program.
