Job Summary

Little Lemons Skating, is a Calgary based Learn to Skate program focused on helping young children build confidence, independence, and fundamentals skating skills in a fun, positive environment.

We are looking for enthusiastic high school and practicum students to join our team as Volunteer Learn to Skate assistants for the Fall and Winter season. This position is ideal for students with approximately 2-3 years of Learn to Skate , Figure skating, or Hockey experience who enjoy working with young children and would like to gain valuable volunteer, leadership, and coaching experience.

Volunteers will work alongside our instructors to assist young skaters on the ice, demonstrate basic skating skills, create circuts, provide encouragement and one on one support when needed, help with games and activities and contribute to a secure, welcoming, and energetic class environment

This is a great opportunity for students looking to complete community service or volunteer hours while develpoing communication, leardership, teamwork, and mentoring skills in a recreational sport setting.

Responsibilities

- Assist certified instructors in delivering engaging learn-to-skate lessons tailored for young children ages 3-12
- Support participants in practicing skating techniques,



ensuring proper safety protocols are followed at all times
- Help set up equipment, organize lesson areas, and prepare materials needed for each session
- Encourage positive interactions among participants to foster a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere
- Monitor participants’ progress, providing encouragement and constructive feedback to boost confidence
- Promote safety by observing skating behaviors, preventing accidents, and responding promptly to any incidents or concerns
- Support swimming activities as needed, assisting with water safety and basic instruction under supervision

Experience

- Previous experience ( 2-3 years ) teaching or coaching young students skating, enthusiasm for working with young people is essential
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and motivate others in a sports or recreational setting
- Knowledge of basic skating techniques and swimming safety principles is advantageous
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while maintaining a positive attitude
- Willingness to learn new skills and adhere to safety standards and program guidelines
