The National Diabetes Trust is Canada’s largest charitable clothing and small household good collection service. With more than 5,000 donations bins and an active home pick-up service in communities across Canada (excluding Quebec), we collect unwanted gently used clothing and household items, using them to raise much-needed funds for Diabetes Canada.
Each year, the program diverts more than 100 million pounds of clothing and household items from landfill sites across Canada. Job Overview
Reporting to the Area Manager, Business Operations, this hands‑on roll supports the National Diabetes Trust’s mission through the Declutter® Program, the door‑to‑door pickup and drop‑box collection programs, through the generation of revenue. The Operations Manager ensures all local business streams and targets are met, maintains strong fiscal accountability and excellent net revenues in the context of sound human resource management practices.
About the Operations Manager Role
Manage, coach, direct and motivate staff to achieve targets to ensure that budgeted revenues are achieved and to promote a sense of teamwork and cooperation among employees
Hire, evaluate, promote, and terminate staff in consultation with the Area Manager and the Human Resources Department
Responsible for accurate inventory management and reporting. Ensure the correct level of inventory is available to maintain quotas throughout the year subject to seasonal fluctuations in productivity
Guarantee that all documentation related to the Commercial Vehicle Operator Registration / National Safety Code Registration, Hours of Service and vehicle inspection, maintenance and service are accurate and up‑to‑date
Identify and recommend opportunities in the operation for cost savings and increased efficiencies through economics of scale, elimination of duplication, use of technology and group purchasing
Complete monthly employee productivity reports and plan,
post and implement regular staff meetings
Prepare and follow a yearly budget for their Business Operation
Have a thorough knowledge of the organization goals and objectives, services, programs, and organizational structure at all levels
Liaise with local Value Village Stores to maintain and ensure a steady flow/proper mix of merchandise is delivered to Value Village Stores
Responsible for accurate inventory management and reporting. Ensure the correct level of inventory is available to maintain quotas throughout the year subject to seasonal fluctuations in productivity
Build and foster relationships in the community including but not limited to drop box partnerships, alternate collection partnerships, clothing drives and fundraising opportunities
Communicate and liaison with Leadership Centres, Branches, etc. to build internal National Diabetes Trust support, unified public relations efforts and to obtain their assistance in securing merchandise
Keep updated personnel files and attendance records, produce work schedules, and deal with vacation requests and sick leave
Ensures payroll records are accurate and sent to the National Payroll Department on a timely basis

About You
Must have a Class 5 and/or G license, passenger car or light truck, with a minimum of 5 years actual driving experience at that level, and a clean driver abstract, with no violations or accidents within the last 3 years.
University Degree or College Diploma in Business Administration or equivalent relevant experience
5-7 years of experience in a multi-disciplinary setting with a scheduling component
Excellent organizational skills, motivation, and ability to delegate
Good interpersonal skills
Knowledge of computer systems, particularly Microsoft Office
Knowledge of financial management and planning
Excellent communication skills including verbal, written and telephone
Post-secondary education in Business Administration or equivalent experience
Second language an asset
Must be legally eligible to work in Canada and, where applicable, must have a valid work permit or study permit that allows the candidate to fulfill the requirements of the role.
