Unity Health Toronto, comprised of Providence Healthcare, St. Joseph's Health Centre and St. Michael's Hospital, works to advance the health of everyone in our urban communities and beyond. Join our St. Michael's Hospital team as we work to put patients and families at the centre of everything we do, in the role of Physiotherapist on ourStroke and Neurology unit.
Our Stroke and Neurology 15-bed unit provides acute care to patients that have received lifesaving treatment (TPA and Endovascular Treatment /mechanical clot retrieval) for those afflicted with stroke. As a Regional Stroke Centre, we receive stroke bypass from other hospitals.
In partnership with the GTA Stroke Network, the team provides exceptional, patient-centered care in a collaborative and integrated manner. An inter-disciplinary team of RNs and RPNs, Charge Nurses, Nurse Educators, Nurse Practitioners, Care and Transition Facilitators, Social Workers, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, OTA/PTA, Speech Language Pathologists, Dieticians, Pharmacists, and Stroke Internists/Neurologists supports our unit. As a part of an academic center, our team participates in ongoing research, quality improvement and professional development initiatives.
The primary role of a physiotherapist is to assess, diagnose within scope, and analyze the impact of injury, disease,
disorders, environment factors or lifestyle on movement and function. Physiotherapists promote physical activity and overall health at any stage of life when movement and function are threatened. They prevent and rehabilitate disease, injury, and disability, and manage and improve acute and chronic conditions, activity limitations, participation restrictions and physical performance through intervention and education.
Works effectively as a member of an interprofessional team, collaborating with other disciplines to provide comprehensive patient care
Contributes to the academic mandate of the organization as an educator, resource or support for staff and members of the academic and professional community
Identifies and addresses educational needs for patients and their families
Demonstrates commitment to ongoing professional development in order to continue to provide optimal patient care
Is committed to and participates in ongoing quality improvement and/or research in the organization
Provides patient care in accordance with all professional and organizational standards
Is committed to providing anti oppressive and accessible care for all patients
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be currently licensed by and in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario (CPO) for practice in all applicable clinical areas
Must hold a Master's Degree (or substantial equivalent) in Physiotherapy
Current BLS (or willingness to complete within probationary period)
As required by the program, must be rostered (or willing to roster prior to the end of the probationary period) with the CPO to perform the following activity: Administering a Substance by Inhalation
Experience in Stroke and Neurologyis preferred
Excellent communication, critical thinking and interpersonal skills
Proven flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment
Excellent time management, organizational and prioritization skills as relates to patient care
Demonstrated advocacy, commitment to and involvement with profession preferred (e.g. involvement with qualified association, representation on relevant committees)
