Warehouse / Lumber Yard Worker

Position: Shipper

Position Summary

Shipper is responsible for safely and efficiently receiving, handling, storing, picking, and loading building materials and lumber for customers and store operations. The position requires the safe operation of material-handling equipment, including forklifts, reach trucks, and Combilifts, as well as the ability to operate chop saws and panel saws. (training provided)

The successful candidate works effectively as part of a team, provides excellent customer service, maintains a clean and organized yard, and follows all company, workplace safety, and union requirements.

Key Responsibilities

- Receive, unload, inspect, and properly store lumber, building materials, and other merchandise.
- Pick and stage customer orders accurately and efficiently.
- Load and unload customer vehicles and delivery trucks using appropriate equipment and safe material-handling practices.
- Safely operate forklifts, reach trucks, and Combilifts to move and organize materials.
- Operate chop saws and panel saws to cut lumber, panels, and other materials according to customer or work-order specifications.
- Ensure all equipment is operated in accordance with manufacturer instructions and workplace safety procedures.
- Assist customers with locating and selecting lumber and building materials.
- Verify product quantities, sizes, and condition before loading orders.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and protected lumber yard and warehouse.
- Follow proper procedures for handling long, heavy,



or awkward materials.
- Perform regular equipment inspections and report damaged or unsafe equipment immediately.
- Follow all applicable occupational health and safety regulations, company policies, and safe-work procedures.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Assist with inventory counts, stock organization, and general warehouse duties.
- Work cooperatively with coworkers, supervisors, drivers, contractors, and customers.
- Perform other duties related to warehouse and yard operations as required.

Qualifications & Skills
- Previous experience in a lumber yard, building materials, warehouse, or retail environment is an asset.
- Experience operating forklifts, reach trucks, and Combilifts.
- Experience operating a chop saw and panel saw.
- Ability to safely lift, carry, and maneuver lumber and building materials.
- Good knowledge of workplace health and safety practices.
- Ability to accurately read product information, measurements, and work orders.
- Solid attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a busy environment.
- Good communication and customer-service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.




- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Willingness and ability to follow union, company, and workplace policies and procedures.

Physical Requirements
- Regular lifting and handling of lumber, panels, building materials, and merchandise.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and work for extended periods.
- Ability to safely operate material-handling equipment.
- Ability to work both indoors and outdoors, including in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to use required PPE and follow all safety procedures.

Safety & Compliance Safety is a key responsibility of this position. The Warehouse / Lumber Yard Worker must follow all applicable health and safety legislation, company safety policies, equipment operating procedures, and collective agreement requirements. Employees are expected to immediately report hazards, damaged equipment, injuries, and unsafe working conditions to the appropriate supervisor.

Working Conditions

This position involves working in a fast-paced lumber warehouse environment with regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, moving equipment, lumber, building materials, noise, dust, and varying temperatures.

This is a unionized position and is subject to the applicable collective agreement, including wage rates, hours of work, benefits, seniority, and other terms and conditions of employment.

Pay: $21.12 per hour
