At Voilà Learning, we’re not just imagining the future of education, we’re building it. We are a Canadian social enterprise operating at the intersection of impact and innovation through two interconnected entities with one shared mission: making learning accessible, equitable, and engaging for all.

Voilà, our nonprofit arm, partners with schools, governments, and community organizations to deliver culturally responsive, community-rooted educational programs. Our work is grounded in inclusivity and creating learning experiences that reflect the diverse realities of the communities we serve.

ConnectED Labs, our technology arm, brings that mission into the digital world. We develop immersive and experiential learning technologies that combine AI, live collaboration, and virtual environments to create new ways for people to learn, connect, and engage.

Our products, MetaLingo and inPerson, are used by thousands of learners, educators, and organizations. Our platforms span live collaborative learning environments and the broader digital experiences that support them, from onboarding and scheduling to dashboards, administration, reporting, and user management.

Together, Voilà and ConnectED Labs bring education, technology, and human-centered design together to build learning experiences that are accessible, engaging, and designed for how people learn and connect today.

We’re looking for a Senior Full-Stack Engineer who wants more than a backlog of tickets. You’ll build end-to-end features using Next.js, React, TypeScript, Prisma, and MongoDB, while helping define our architecture, engineering practices, and technical direction. You’ll also play a key role in raising the technical maturity of the engineering team through thoughtful code reviews, systems thinking, collaborative problem solving, and engineering mentorship. Working alongside a small team of seven engineers, you’ll have direct access to product, design, and leadership, giving you the opportunity to influence decisions from concept to production. This is a hands-on engineering role, with most of your time spent building software (60%) while also mentoring teammates (40%) through code reviews, contributing to architecture discussions, and helping shape engineering standards.

This is a high-impact, low-bureaucracy setting where your ideas matter. We value engineers who communicate openly, mentor others, challenge technical decisions thoughtfully, and build software that’s designed to last.

What You’ll Do

Build features end-to-end in Next.js — UI in React Server and Client Components, server logic in server actions or API routes, data via Prisma + MongoDB.

Work day-to-day in a Bun + Turbo monorepo, contributing across both apps and the shared packages they depend on.

Design and write shared code in the packages layer that both our apps consume — the session experience, the whiteboard, UI primitives, and other shared utilities.

Architect and integrate data flows that keep thousands of concurrent learners in sync.

Build developer-friendly APIs for integrating real-time features into our products.

Optimize performance, bundle size, and runtime stability across our apps.

Build responsive,

user-friendly interfaces in close collaboration with UI/UX designers.

Ensure code quality through code reviews, unit testing, debugging, performance monitoring, and documentation.

Mentor junior to mid-level engineers through thoughtful code reviews, pairing, and direct technical feedback. Lead architectural decisions when they come up.

Drive technical conversations with clarity and respect — surface tradeoffs, push back when needed, and bring the team along with you.

Collaborate daily with product & UX in an Agile environment (stand-ups, reviews, planning).

Identify root causes instead of simply addressing symptoms, helping the team solve complex engineering problems efficiently.

Encourage cross-functional technical collaboration by actively contributing beyond your immediate workstream.

What You Bring (Core Skills)

15+ years preferred (10+ considered with exceptional experience and demonstrated technical leadership).

You’ve shipped across multiple eras and stacks. It shows in your judgment and instincts, not just your resume. You’ve seen patterns come and go, so you don’t chase hype, you make seasoned calls.

Deep expertise building production applications with modern Next.js (App Router), including Server Components, Client Components, Server Actions, routing patterns, and performance optimization.

Fully current with the modern stack — you’re shipping production Next.js (App Router), React and TypeScript today, not five years ago.

Strong monorepo experience — Turbo, or similar. You understand shared-package boundaries, versioning across consumers, and the ergonomics of working across multiple apps in one repo.

Solid foundation in software engineering — data modeling, API design, authentication, session management, and architectural tradeoffs.

Strong ownership mindset. You proactively communicate blockers, ask thoughtful questions, and take responsibility for delivering high-quality solutions.

Experience with a database, ideally through an ORM (we use MongoDB via Prisma).

Exceptional debugging and root cause analysis skills. You enjoy untangling complex technical problems and systematically identifying the underlying issue rather than treating symptoms.

You naturally think beyond your own code, considering architecture, maintainability, product impact, and the broader engineering ecosystem.

Strong decision-making. You weigh tradeoffs honestly, commit to a direction, and explain the reasoning so the rest of the team can follow.

Excellent and respectful communication. You speak up in discussions, ask clarifying questions, push back constructively, and bring the team forward. We’re looking for someone who leads with their voice, not someone who stays quiet when something needs to be said.

A demonstrated track record of mentoring junior to mid-level engineers — through detailed code reviews, pairing, and direct technical feedback — and raising the technical bar on the teams you’ve been on.

Git, testing, debugging, and Agile teamwork experience.

Bonus Points

Experience with Next.js 16 specifically — App Router patterns at the latest version.

DevOps comfort — GitLab CI, Docker,

Kubernetes, observability tooling.

Game engine exposure (Unity, Agones, or WebGL).

Cloud certifications (GCP, AWS, or similar).

The Ideal Candidate
You are the engineer others come to when they’re stuck. You instinctively ask questions before making assumptions, enjoy helping others work through complex problems, and naturally look beyond your own area of ownership. You care as much about how your team engineers software as what gets shipped. You don’t just write code; you improve systems, elevate teammates, and help teams make better technical decisions. You’ve likely spent years reviewing code, mentoring developers, navigating architectural trade-offs, and balancing speed with maintainability. You’re comfortable speaking up when something doesn’t feel right, and you’re equally comfortable changing your mind when presented with a better solution. You care deeply about code quality, but you also understand pragmatism and business realities.

Why This Role?
This isn’t a feature factory role.

We’re looking for a senior engineer who wants a meaningful seat at the table and enjoys helping teams build better software, not just writing code. You’ll have significant influence over architecture, engineering standards, code quality, and technical decision-making across our products. Your voice will matter. We want someone who is comfortable challenging assumptions, identifying risks early, mentoring other engineers, and helping raise the technical bar of the entire team.

At ConnectED Labs, you’ll work on products that impact thousands of learners while solving real engineering challenges across modern web applications, shared platform architecture, real-time systems, immersive learning experiences, and AI-enabled products.

If you’re looking for a role where you can:

Shape technical direction instead of simply executing tickets

Mentor and influence other engineers through thoughtful code reviews and technical leadership

Work with a high degree of autonomy and trust

Build products with meaningful social impact

Have direct access to product, design, and leadership teams
