Senior Software Engineer – Microservice

Pay Rate: $70.11 to $77.49/hour, depending on experience

Contract Length: 3 Months

Location: Calgary, Alberta

Raise is currently hiring a

Senior Software Engineer – Microservice

on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique chance to work with an industry leader. Our Client,is a major Canadian airline.

Note: The primary pay rate is based on T4 classification; however, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in an INC classification, where applicable.

Description The Senior Software Engineer - Microservices to join our Commercial Technology & Integration services team. In this role, you will demonstrate a high standard of excellence, embrace technical challenges, and thrive in a quick-paced Agile environment.You will provide technical expertise and oversee a high-performing development team, designing and building modernized Java software API solutions and microservices. As a seasoned professional, you will act as a natural coach and mentor, helping to elevate the team while collaborating closely with business stakeholders to deliver guest-focused applications.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and maintain robust, extensible, and high-quality code for upcoming product features and existing functionality.

Actively participate and provide technical expertise for the creation, implementation, and ongoing evolution of 's design methodologies, coding standards, and development practices.

Play an active role in evaluating and selecting new software development tools and frameworks to optimize our stack.

Plan, lead, and track the technical aspects of software development sustainment streams and capital projects. Provide accurate estimates for development effort, complexity, and risk.

Quality & DevOps:





Design and develop automated unit and integration tests for backend code.

Build and maintain robust CI/CD DevOps pipelines.

Work alongside QA and operational partners to assess changes, validate requirements, and ensure production supportability and rapid defect resolution.

Share knowledge through presentations, workshops, and code reviews, fostering a culture of continuous learning and adherence to best practices.

Qualifications

8 +years of comprehensive experience across all phases of the software development lifecycle (SDLC).

Core Technical Expertise:

Expert-level experience developing microservices and APIs using

Java

and the

Spring Framework

(or related technologies).

Deep expertise in deploying RESTful APIs on

Azure APIM

using an Infrastructure as Code (IaC) approach.

Hands-on experience with

Terraform

(required for building deployment pipelines, or equivalent automation tooling).

Strong background with version control systems ( GIT , Subversion) and modern IDEs ( IntelliJ , Eclipse).

Proficiency with cloud platforms ( Azure , AWS, or Google Cloud).

Testing & Automation:

Knowledge of JavaScript unit testing frameworks (Jest, Nock, Mocha, Jasmine).

Experience with build automation and CI/CD pipelines via

Jenkins

and

Azure DevOps .

Methodologies:

Practical, hands-on understanding of iterative, Agile frameworks such as

Scrum

and

Kanban .

Must-Haves

Proven experience developing APIs and microservices utilizing

App Services,



Azure Functions, and AKS (Azure Kubernetes Service)

with Java frameworks.

Experience building and maintaining

DevOps Pipelines .

Familiarity with

SRE (Site Reliability Engineering)

principles and practices.

Nice-to-Haves

Prior experience in the

airline or travel industry , or previous experience.

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly.

Education and Certifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
