Hillsdale Estates
This position is fully on-site, 5 days a week located at Hillsdale Estates in Oshawa, Ontario.
Director of Care
Reporting to the Administrator, the Director of Care will lead and manage all aspect of the nursing and personal support services within the home.
Specifically, the incumbent will:
- Actively participate in strategic planning activities by planning, implementing, prioritizing and evaluating nursing department goals and objectives, while ensuring alignment with the home¿s operational plan and divisional strategic plan
- Review and revise the department¿s staffing plan on a quarterly basis using Canadian Institute Health Information (CIHI) data while focusing on resident acuity, work life balance, and adherence to the various Collective Agreements
- Ensure compliance with the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (MOHLTC) Homes Act 2007 and Regulations, which includes monitoring quality and risk indicators within the home and liaising with the Ministry in regards to inspections and action plans
- Develop, review and revise divisional nursing and support policies, procedures and programs to ensure compliance with best practice research, CNO and RHPA Standards and all other applicable legislative changes/requirements
- Assist with the development and management of the Nursing budget by determining capital and equipment needs, overseeing the ordering, monitoring and distribution of medical/nursing supplies and evaluate inventory control systems to ensure proper management of financial resources
- Manage the human resources within the home by overseeing and/or participating in recruitment, selection,
coaching, training and performance management functions
- Oversee, guide and support the Nursing Management Team in matters relating to progressive discipline, labour relations and grievances
- Act as a Change Management Agent by advocating for change within the home and fostering an setting that is person-centered, proactive and open to new ideas
- Effectively communicate with nursing staff, as well as the interdisciplinary team, families, residents and professional colleagues
- Chair and participate in various internal and external committees, meetings and programs
- Work in accordance with the provisions of all applicable health and safety legislation, as well as corporate and departmental policies and procedures
The successful applicant will possess:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing and/or equivalent; a Master's Degree is preferred
- Current certificate of registration as a RN with the College of Nurses of Ontario, with proven documentation of annual self-development/reflective practice
- Progressive management experience in healthcare, with a minimum of three years¿ nursing experience in long term care
- Extensive knowledge of the Long Term Care Homes Act (2007), Standards and Best Practices of the College of Nurses of Ontario, Regulated Health Professionals Act, Substitute Decisions and Consent to Treatment Act, Personal Health Information Protection Act and all other relevant legislation
- Knowledge of Pharmacy Standards, Health Quality Ontario, Canadian Institute for Health Information, Accreditation Canada, Labour Relations Act, Collective Agreements, WSIB
- Proficiency with MS Office applications, including electronic healthcare Record (eHCR)
- Demonstrated leadership and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong problem-solving, negotiation and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to foster collaboration and team work
- Superior coaching, mentoring and team building abilities
- Strategic planning and change management experience
- Demonstrated experience in leading equity- centered change processes.
Management & Exempt Salary Grade 8
- Salary: $132,969 to $166,211 per annum
Conditions of Employment
All applicants are expected to comply with the Region of Durham's Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct Policies throughout the recruitment process. The successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check dated within six (6) months from date of hire. Additionally, tuberculosis screening will be required in accordance with the FLTC Act (O.Reg. 246/22). Proof of education, qualifications and any other job bona fide requirements will also be collected. Finally, compliance with the Mask Fit Testing Program is required and will be coordinated as part of the orientation process.
