Reporting to the Lead Investigator, Vehicle Safety, you will provide technical assistance to licensed facilities, technicians, registered owners, carrier companies, law enforcement partners and the general public. This role will conduct complex investigations, facility and vehicle inspections using their knowledge of the safety standards and appropriate legislation to promote public safety. The incumbent also assists facilities and technicians in questions related to Alberta’s Vehicle Inspection Programs. Further roles and responsibilities are explained as follows: The VSI coordinates leads and undertakes investigations, into alleged non-compliance with provincial Acts and Regulations.



Responsible for conducting facility and vehicle inspections using their knowledge of the vehicle safety standards and appropriate legislation to promote public safety. The VSI will consider all aspects of the investigation results and make decisions based upon appropriate progressive discipline policy that range from Vehicle Safety Directives to Administrative Penalty. The incumbent will lead or participate in joint investigations with internal and external stakeholders; Law enforcement agencies, Service Alberta Document statements and evidence for investigative files, proper practice on statement procedures for court presentation and disciplinary hearings. Exercise powers granted under an Investigators designation to ensure the safety of the motoring public. Analyze documents including Records of Inspection, Inspection Certificates, decals, invoices, and Requests for Inspection. Undertakes in office inspection of vehicles using provincial standards, Vehicle Inspection Program manuals, Original Equipment Manufacturer standards and North American Standard Inspection Program. Maintain existing, and develop new, enforcement agency relationships as well as inter-governmental relationships. Complete administrative duties as assigned including court ready reports and updating vehicle status. Competencies are behaviors that are essential to reach our goals in serving Albertans. Required: Journeyperson level certification and 5 years related experience at the Journeyperson level; Two Journeyperson level certifications and 3 years related experience at the Journeyperson level; Related degree and 3 years related experience. Eligibility for appointment as an investigator. Assets: Preference will be given to incumbents who possess two Journeyperson certifications and/ orenforcement and technical training. Expert knowledge of the Traffic Safety Act and all supporting regulations Extensive knowledge and experience with investigative procedures and requirements for conducting investigations while considering the individual inspection facility/technician involved. Certification in the North American Standard Inspection Program. Broad exposure to vehicle maintenance and transportation industries Working knowledge of departmental, branch, and section policies and procedures pertinent to the Vehicle Inspection Program. Term of Employment: Permanent Hours of Work: 36.25 hours per week. Location: Calgary Travel is essential and mandatory for this position at a rate of 25% - 50%.
