Professional Apprenticeship – Trainee Quantity Surveyor
We're seeking bright and motivated school leavers to bring energy, recent ideas, and a fresh perspective to help us become the recognized leader and transform the construction and engineering industry.
Role Overview
Assist with the commercial functions within a project or office, providing commercial, contractual, and financial management services.
Under supervision, ensure project profit objectives and targets are met, managing cash flow and margins to maximize performance, in line with Group processes.
Key Deliverables and Responsibilities
1. Assist with the commercial functions within projects or offices.
2. Implement company commercial practices.
3. Understand basic commercial principles.
4. Assist with the management and reporting of monthly costs.
5. Assist with the preparation and management of simple subcontracts.
6. Prepare and file records.
7. Assist with interim applications and final accounts from first principles.
8. Assist with valuing and pricing variations.
9. Communicate clearly and confidently to a professional standard.
10. Keep your manager fully informed of any issues or risks that could affect the business or project.

Apprenticeship Provider
Laing O'Rourke collaborates with trusted and approved training providers. Successful candidates will be required to apply to our preferred provider for the apprenticeship route selected.
Entry Grades
- Standard entry requirements
- UCAS Tariff: 96
- Scottish Higher: BBCC or equivalent
- Foundation Apprenticeships
We accept selected Foundation Apprenticeships, combined with SQA Highers, as equivalent to our standard entry requirements.
Modern Apprenticeships
If you have completed a Modern Apprenticeship at SCQF level 6 in a relevant discipline, this is equivalent to two Highers at B.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be eligible to work in the UK with a valid work permit.

The fully funded Graduate apprenticeship allows you to work full-time while earning a qualification, including bespoke development modules and technical training. You will gain experience across various projects, supporting your competency and contributing to your professional accreditation.
