Provide customer service and respond to inquiries from people experiencing or at risk of homelessness in various settings Assess housing needs using VI-SPDAT or SPDAT Divert people from homeless services by referring them to internal and external supports Facilitate admission to the emergency housing program when appropriate Connect individuals and families with natural, internal, and community supports to prevent homelessness Connect individuals and families to the emergency housing program’s external service delivery partner when diversion is not possible Maintain client records and service delivery data in departmental software such as HIFIS Perform related administrative tasks for the Homelessness Prevention Services program Requirements
Two-year diploma in a related discipline such as Social Services Worker, Human Services, or Addictions Counselling Over two years’ experience in a Social Services-related position, including direct experience in crisis intake and support, in-house shelter services, addictions and/or mental health intake and case management Additional training and/or certification in mental health, addictions and/or trauma counselling considered an asset Valid Ontario Driver’s Licence and access to a reliable vehicle Excellent interpersonal skills Working knowledge of community services and supports Experience working directly with people experiencing homelessness or at imminent risk of homelessness In-depth knowledge of homelessness risk factors and barriers to housing stability Training and/or experience in motivational interviewing and assessment tools such as VI-SPDAT and SPDAT Experience using homelessness-related databases such as HIFIS Experience with crisis situations and conflict resolution for vulnerable populations with tri-morbidity Computer knowledge in Microsoft Office and department-specific database software Successful applicants must provide a current Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector screening where required, and education verification Core Competencies
