Summary of the Job: The

Pilot Operator

is an essential member of the Research and Development Implementation Team, responsible for operating and maintaining pilot testing systems at the Oakville testing facility. These systems are critical for supporting product development and validation processes at both pilot and full-scale customer locations.

Attention to detail and the ability to work independently are highly desirable. Exceptional organizational skills and hands‑on experience in a fast‑paced industrial workplace are essential to success in this role.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Conduct tests for water and wastewater products and systems, including monitoring, documentation, chemical dosing, inspections, and communication with test leaders.

Perform analytical laboratory tests and accurately document results to characterize and process water samples.

Assist with instrument calibrations and with maintaining and modifying fluid system components such as PVC piping spools, valves, pumps, and blowers.

Collaborate closely with suppliers to source and procure fluid system components and consumables, ensuring accurate and timely billing and invoicing.

Provide on-call and weekend support for the testing facility, as needed.

Act as backup for the JRTC Lab Oakville R&D; Pilot Operator, as needed.

Collaborate with the team on health and safety, maintenance, and improvement activities to

ensure safe and efficient facility operations.

Qualifications Education & Experience Required:

Technologist diploma or degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering/Technology or a related technical discipline focused on water/wastewater treatment.

Valid Ontario G2 or G-class driver’s licence.

Valid Canadian passport required.

Travel domestically and internationally.

Preferred:

Knowledge or experience in water and wastewater treatment, ideally with direct exposure to membrane products and processes

Familiarity with fluid systems, including piping, pumps, valves, and P&ID; drawings

Experience with laboratory methods for water and wastewater analysis

Ability to create simple CAD drawings for Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs;) and facility layouts.

Understanding of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and electrical safety

Capability to operate an overhead crane and lift truck (training will be provided).

Proficiency in the SAP purchasing system.

Working Conditions: The work environment spans various settings, including offices, laboratories, and industrial and wastewater facilities. The individual may be exposed to municipal and industrial wastewater, as well as various cleaning chemicals. The role occasionally requires lifting equipment or modules weighing up to 25 kilograms.

Compensation:

The compensation range is tied to the market for similarly bench-marked roles. The range is not an absolute, but a guide, and offers will be based on the individual candidate’s knowledge, skills, experience and market conditions, as well as internal peer equity. Depending upon all the preceding considerations for the final selected individual candidate, the offer may be lower or higher than the stated range: $65,000 - $74,000 CAD.
