Role Description
This is a full‑time hybrid role based in Vancouver, BC, with opportunities for partial remote work. We’re hiring a Full Stack Product Engineer to own a core part of the Oscar product stack - the software layer our customers rely on, and the internal tooling that powers the business behind it. This is the whole thing: the Node backend, the React frontends, the AWS infrastructure it all runs on, the security that protects it, and the steady stream of recent modules and tooling that make the product better every single week.
You’ll collaborate closely with the rest of our engineering team, and have a direct line to leadership - high trust, high ownership, and very little standing between you and shipping. You decide how it’s built, you ship it, and you live with the consequences - the wins and the occasional 2 am page. For an engineer who’s tired of being one cog inside someone else’s architecture, this is a rare amount of surface area to call your own.
What You’ll Work On
Owning a core part of the Oscar product stack end-to-end - React frontends, Node backend services and APIs, and everything in between
Designing, building, and maintaining the AWS infrastructure the product runs on
Building and running real CI/CD pipelines across proper dev, staging, and prod environments
Shipping new product modules constantly - taking a customer or internal need from idea to deployed feature
Building internal tooling that lets a small team operate like a much bigger one
Required Qualifications
4–5 years building and shipping full-stack web applications in production - you’ve operated real dev / staging / prod, not just localhost
Strong with React on the frontend
Strong with Node.js on the backend - APIs, services, and the data layer
Deep, hands‑on AWS proficiency - the entire product lives here, so this is the core of the role, not a line on your résumé
Real experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines - you’ve built them, not just pushed to them
Experience implementing auth and SSO (OAuth / SAML / SSO providers) and securing production applications
A solid grip on AWS security fundamentals - IAM, secrets, least privilege, securing data at rest and in transit
An AI-augmented workflow - you’ve folded AI tooling into how you build and have a real point of view on where it makes you faster. We’re tool‑agnostic; we care that you have a workflow and use it deliberately
The instinct to own a problem end-to-end, make the architectural call, and ship
Nice to Have
Infrastructure‑as‑code (Terraform or CDK)
Strong relational data modeling (Postgres)
Experience as an early or sole engineer on a product you owned
Docker and containerized workflows
Building data‑heavy interfaces and dashboards
A bootstrapped or small‑team background
Who You Are
An owner, not a ticket‑taker - you want the whole surface, not a slice of it
Comfortable working autonomously and making the call on your own judgment
Genuinely energized by AI tooling and what it lets a single engineer pull off
Detail‑oriented where it counts - you trust the data, not the vibe
Allergic to “we’ve always done it this way”
Pulled forward by shipping to real customers and watching it land
Salary: $100k-$120k CAD depending on experience
