The British Columbia Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA) is seeking a collaborative and technically strong Infrastructure Engineer with cloud experience to help design, support, secure, and modernize our IT infrastructure.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex technical problems while also building strong relationships with staff, vendors, and stakeholders. We are looking for an engineer who combines strong infrastructure expertise with excellent communication skills, professionalism, business awareness, and a customer-focused mindset.
This position supports critical 24/7 business operations and includes participation in a rotating on-call schedule (typically one week every four weeks).
Responsibilities Administer and enhance Microsoft 365 cloud services including Azure, Entra ID, Intune, Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, Defender, Conditional Access, and Purview
Administer Windows and Linux servers in physical, virtual, and hybrid environments
Deploy, maintain, and optimize cloud and on-premises infrastructure with a focus on resiliency, automation, scalability, and security
Oversee mission-critical systems supporting 24/7 operations and ensure continuous availability
Manage and optimize network infrastructure including LAN, WAN, Wi‑Fi, VPN, firewalls, and remote connectivity
Leverage Microsoft and Cisco security technologies to proactively monitor, analyze, troubleshoot, and respond to security incidents
Investigate and resolve security vulnerabilities, suspicious activity, and infrastructure issues in a timely and accurate manner
Maintain and test backup and disaster recovery systems and procedures
Automate operational and infrastructure tasks using PowerShell, Bash, Python, or similar tools where appropriate
Collaborate with developers and vendors on application deployments, web infrastructure, and system integrations
Deploy and manage Windows endpoints using modern endpoint management practices including Intune and Autopilot
Work closely with business units and stakeholders to understand operational needs, recommend technology solutions,
and improve business processes through technology
Translate technical concepts, infrastructure risks, and security concerns into clear business‑focused communication for non‑technical stakeholders
Maintain comprehensive documentation for systems, processes, configurations, procedures, and operational workflows
Assist with procurement, vendor management, licensing, budgeting, and lifecycle management of hardware and software assets
Build strong working relationships with staff and stakeholders by providing qualified, empathetic, and solutions‑oriented support
Provide clear communication, training, and guidance to both technical and non‑technical users
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
Minimum 3–7 years of experience in infrastructure, systems administration, or enterprise IT operations
Strong experience administering Microsoft 365 environments including Entra ID, Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, Intune, Defender, Conditional Access, and Purview
Experience supporting hybrid cloud and on‑premises environments
Strong understanding of identity and access management (IAM), MFA, RBAC, and Zero Trust security principles
Skilled in virtualization technologies such as VMware, Hyper‑V, and Azure Virtual Machines
Strong knowledge of Windows Server, Linux, Microsoft DNS, IIS, and Remote Desktop Services (RDS)
Experience managing Microsoft IIS in high‑availability production environments
Experience with Microsoft Azure infrastructure and cloud services
Experience supporting enterprise endpoint deployments and device management
Strong understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, VPNs, switching, and firewall technologies
Experience with enterprise security and monitoring tools
Experience with scripting and automation using PowerShell, Bash, or Python
Ability to understand business requirements and align technical solutions with operational goals
Exceptional troubleshooting, organizational, multitasking, and problem‑solving skills
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively and provide high‑quality support to technical and non‑technical users
Valid driver’s license and ability to participate in an on‑call support rotation
Nice to Have Microsoft certifications such as AZ‑104, AZ‑800/801, SC‑300, MS‑102, MD‑102, or Security+
Experience with Microsoft Defender XDR, Sentinel, or security monitoring platforms
Experience with Veeam, AvePoint, or enterprise backup solutions
Experience with Docker or containerization technologies
Experience with infrastructure automation or infrastructure‑as‑code concepts
Experience with Cisco security technologies and firewalls
Experience with Dell server infrastructure, iDRAC, and OpenManage
Experience with SQL Server
Experience with load balancers and certificate management
Familiarity with SAN/storage technologies
