Intent of the process The intent of this process is to establish a fully assessed pool of qualified candidates. However, the results of this process may be used to staff same or similar positions for future vacancies of various tenures at Public Services and Procurement Canada in the Ontario Region.

Other conditions of Employment

Reliability Security Clearance; Secret Clearance may be required depending on the requirements of the position being staffed.

Must possess a valid driver’s licence equivalent to an Ontario Class G licence.

Must be willing and able to enter construction sites, occupied buildings, institutional facilities, industrial spaces, service areas, and secure government facilities, as required.

Must be willing and able to work overtime, as required.

Essential experiences

EX1. Recent* and significant** experience providing fire protection engineering advice and conducting design and code-compliance reviews for real property assets.

EX2. Recent* and significant** experience in the design of fire protection and life-safety systems for real property assets.

EX3.



Recent* and significant** experience applying national building codes, fire codes, fire protection standards, life safety requirements, to existing buildings, new construction, and renovations.

EX4. Recent* experience conducting fire protection inspections, assessments, investigations and commissioning reviews, including construction document review, occupancy acceptance and fire-safety incident response.

Notices: *Recent experience is defined as having approximately five years of experience within the last ten years from the date of this advertisement. **Significant experience is defined as approximately five years of cumulative experience. The experience does not need to be consecutive but should total about five years overall.

Essential knowledge

K1. Knowledge of the National Building Code of Canada, National Fire Code of Canada, and applicable ULC and NFPA standards.

K2. Knowledge of active and passive fire protection systems means of egress, smoke control, emergency power interfaces, special hazards and occupancy requirements.

K3. Knowledge of the multidisciplinary integration of fire protection and life-safety requirements within architectural and engineering designs and construction documents.

Language requirements (essential for the job) May be applied / assessed at a later date

Asset Professional Certifications and Education

Membership in fire protection-related professional organizations, including SFPE, Canadian Fire Safety Association, and The Institution of Fire Engineers Canada Branch.

Recognized certification or training related to fire protection engineering, fire alarm and sprinkler systems, code compliance, commissioning, life safety, smoke control, and applicable NBC, ULC and NFPA requirements.

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in engineering, with specialization related to the position.

Asset Experience

Experience providing fire protection engineering services for federal government or other public-sector facilities.

Experience applying federal fire protection requirements, including Treasury Board, PSPC, RCMP and Canada Labour Code requirements.

Experience reviewing and designing complex active and passive fire protection systems, including smoke control, emergency system interfaces and special-hazard protection.





Experience providing fire protection services through multiple project stages, including design, construction, commissioning, occupancy and post-occupancy assessment.

Experience preparing or reviewing National Master Specification fire protection sections.
