Design Robotics, Automation & Intelligent Mining Technology That Protects Workers Around the World. Imagine designing equipment that allows technicians to safely service 400-ton haul trucks. Developing automation that removes people from hazardous environments. Creating intelligent systems that improve safety at some of the world's largest mining operations.
At ISS Mine Safety , that's exactly what we do.
As part of Boundary Mining Group , we engineer, manufacture, and support innovative safety products, automation systems, hydraulic technologies, and custom-engineered solutions trusted by mining companies across Canada and around the world.
We're looking for a Mechatronics Engineer, Engineer-in-Training (EIT), or experienced Engineering Technologist who enjoys solving complex technical problems and wants the opportunity to own projects from concept through commissioning.
If you're passionate about robotics, automation, controls, electronics, embedded systems, and building real-world solutions—not just designing them—this is your opportunity.
What You'll Do In this hands-on role, you'll work across multiple engineering disciplines, taking ownership of projects from concept through implementation. Your work will include:
Designing, integrating, and troubleshooting automation and control systems
Programming and configuring PLCs, HMIs, sensors, and industrial communication networks
Developing innovative products and prototypes for mining safety applications
Diagnosing and resolving mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic system issues
Testing, commissioning,
and continuously improving equipment and engineered solutions
Supporting mechanical, hydraulic, manufacturing, installation, and field-service activities as project priorities require
Collaborating with engineers, technicians, suppliers, and customers to deliver practical technical solutions
Occasionally travelling to customer and mine sites to install, commission, and troubleshoot equipment
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, takes initiative, and thrives in an environment where no two projects are exactly the same.
What We're Looking For We’re interested in engineers, EITs, and engineering technologists with education and experience in areas such as:
Mechatronics
Industrial Automation
Control Systems
PLC Programming
Robotics
Electronics
Embedded Systems
Mechanical Design
Instrumentation
Hydraulic Systems
You’ll also bring:
A degree or diploma in a related engineering or engineering technology discipline
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
The ability to work independently and take ownership of projects
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
A valid Class 5 driver’s license
Willingness to travel occasionally to customer and mine sites
Experience with the Following Would Be Considered an Asset Experience with PLC programming and industrial control systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Omron, Schneider, or similar)
Industrial networking and communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, CAN Bus, RS-485)
PCB schematic capture and layout
Embedded systems and microcontroller programming (Arduino, C/C++, Python)
Instrumentation, sensor integration, and signal conditioning
Hydraulic systems, fluid power, and mobile equipment
Machine vision, robotics, or autonomous systems
Experience in mining, heavy equipment, or industrial manufacturing environments
Why Join ISS Mine Safety? This isn’t a role where you’ll spend years working on one small piece of a project.
Here, you’ll have the opportunity to see your ideas become reality—from concept and design through testing, commissioning, and installation. Your work will directly contribute to improving safety and reliability at mining operations across Canada and around the world.
We offer:
Competitive compensation
Comprehensive health and dental advantages
Paid technical training and professional development
Opportunities for career growth within Boundary Mining Group
Exposure to innovative mining technologies and multidisciplinary engineering projects
A collaborative, safety-focused, and innovative work environment
Engineers-in-Training Welcome If you’re working toward your P.Eng. designation , this role provides relevant engineering experience under professional supervision that may contribute toward APEGA registration requirements.
