Physiotherapist - CVICU/CICU/D3 - Cardiac surgery, Vascular surgery and Cardiology
Summary of Duties
The Physiotherapist (in collaboration with the interprofessional team) is responsible for providing person centred patient assessments and interventions for cardiology patients, as well as post operative cardiac and vascular surgery patients. Working uniquely to provide care in the ICU setting and continuing to follow patients on the ward, and toward discharge.
The successful candidate will:
Make recommendations for follow-up as required [i.e. Home Care Program, community or rehabilitation resources] in the Schulich Heart Program.
Works with the physiotherapists and other members of the patient care program/team of in the Schulich Heart Program to enhance and support best practice and the existing collaborative relationships.
Participates in quality improvement initiatives, evaluative processes that include the use of standardized and valid outcome measures, report writing, and research activities
Participates in continuing professional development activities including the provision of clinical and educational in-services that fosters ongoing learning, professionalism, interprofessional collaborations, and best practices in physiotherapy for cardiovascular patients.
Participation of supervision of physical therapy students on an ongoing basis. Is a resource; for the education of interprofessional students as required
Is an expert resource for; staff, students, &ߺother health care providers related to physiotherapy.
Participates on appropriate committees pertaining to the operation of the Schulich Heart Program.
Participates in discipline-specific activities within Physiotherapy Services. Practices in accordance with the College of Physiotherapy of Ontario standards of practice.
Qualifications/Skills
M.Sc.PT or equivalent
Current registration in valuable standing with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario
Rostered with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario for Tracheal Suctioning and Administering a Substance by Inhalation or must become rostered once necessary training, education, and experience is completed
Clinical practice relevant to the care of cardiovascular patients would be an asset
Expertise in interprofessional collaborative practice
Excellent interpersonal, time management and organizational skills
Demonstrated effective written, oral and nonverbal communication skills
Must be able to perform the physical demands of the job
Canadian Physiotherapy Association membership preferred
