The Water Operations Branch is a branch within the Infrastructure Department. The branch’s key responsibilities include the operation and maintenance of the City’s environmental infrastructure and systems including water supply, treatment, and distribution systems. This includes the repair and maintenance of drinking water treatment systems, water mains, valves, hydrants, residential main shut off valves, repair and replacement and water meters for service billing; the inspection of water mains and services; the installation of Industrial / Commercial / Institutional water services and meters, new home meters and hydrant metered gate valves; the Backflow Prevention Program; the resolution of water quality or water pressure issues/complaints; the maintenance of City standard drawing details for water specifications; and the prevention of infrastructure damage through the locating services for all of the City of Barrie’s buried infrastructure in accordance with “One Call” legislation.
Under the guidance of the section Supervisor, the Water Customer Services Foreperson is responsible for coordinating, prioritizing, scheduling, and participating in the daily operational and maintenance tasks of the Water Customer Services section of the Water Operations Branch in a safe and efficient manner. This position receives, investigates and prioritizes the resolution of inquires, complaints and service requests related to the City’s Water Customer Services section. In addition, this position oversees tracking and reporting of operational activities, service requests and compliance related data to support performance monitoring and informed decision making. Additionally, this position ensures the section is compliant with branch policies and procedures, and applicable provincial regulations and guidelines. Overall, this position plays an integral role in ensuring that commercial and residential establishments within the City of Barrie receive the delivery of quality and efficient water services.

Education (degree/diploma/certifications):
Three (3) year College Diploma in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline,ora 306A Plumber Certificate of Qualification
Cross Connection Control Specialist Certification
Water Meter Installer (800A) Certification

Experience:
Five (5) years of experience performing duties related to the major responsibilities of the position, including two (2) years of demonstrated leadership/supervisory experience
Knowledge/Skill/Ability:
Working knowledge of the following legislation, regulations, requirements or standards: Protected Drinking Water Act, 2002, including O. Reg. 169/03, Ontario Drinking Water Quality Standards, O. Reg. 170/03, Drinking Water Systems, Drinking Water Works Permits, Municipal Drinking Water Licences, and Procedure for Disinfection of Drinking Water in Ontario; Ontario Water Resources Act including O. Reg. 225/14, Water Taking and Permit to Take Water; Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act; American Water Works Association (AWWA) Standards; Drinking Water Quality Management Standard

Hours:
The normal hours of work are 40hours per week; however, some non-standard hours may apply
Wage:
This a permanent full-time non-union position with the following pay level and 2026pay range:
Pay Level: Level 11
Yearly Salary: $95,046.09 to $127,381.13
Hourly Pay Rate: $45.70 to $61.24
