Humans of HR is an upcoming boutique recruitment agency in Vancouver and is very quickly becoming the go-to agency for hiring and placement of skilled corporate professionals. Combined with our vast network and extraordinary customer-centric approach, we are the obvious choice in helping you find your next home.
A well-established, growth-oriented company is hiring a Payroll Specialist to join its People team. This is a great fit for someone who enjoys the detail work of payroll and wants to build out their cross-border experience.
About the Role You’ll report to the Manager overseeing Payroll & Benefits and take ownership of day-to-day payroll processing for a salaried and hourly workforce spanning Canada and several U.S. states. The job mixes hands-on processing with some exposure to benefits and retirement plan support. If you’re strong on the Canadian side and newer to U.S. multi-state work, that’s not a problem - there’s room to learn on the job!
What You’ll Do Coordinate and prepare full-cycle payroll for Canadian and U.S. (multi-state) employees - Running payroll cycles for employees in Canada and across multiple U.S. states, covering current starters, role changes, exits, bonuses, and one-off adjustments
Checking timesheet data for hourly staff before it feeds into payroll
Keeping employee pay records current - direct deposit info, deductions, tax setup,

and supporting paperwork
Handling Canadian statutory deductions and remittances correctly by province
Getting up to speed on U.S. state-level tax setup and compliance (support provided)
Helping track leave-related pay situations like short-term disability or parental leave
Supporting payroll-related audits and any system changes
Putting together payroll summaries for finance, plus journal entries and account reconciliations
Lending a hand with benefits enrollment and retirement plan recordkeeping for both countries
Working closely with HR, Finance, and IT as needed
What You Bring A couple years of hands-on payroll experience, with solid grounding in Canadian payroll
Some exposure to U.S. payroll is a bonus, not a must-have
Comfortable in a payroll/HR software platform and time-tracking tools
Good with spreadsheets and comfortable learning new systems
Careful, detail-oriented, and trustworthy with sensitive information
Able to juggle a few deadlines at once without things slipping
A degree is nice to have but not required; payroll certifications are a plus
What's Offered Health and dental coverage, life and disability insurance, a pension plan, profit sharing, help with further education, and a genuinely supportive team environment.
