Position Summary
The Project Accountant plays a key role in supporting project financial performance while gaining hands-on exposure to all aspects of accounting within a fast-paced construction environment.

The successful candidate will work closely with Project Managers, Accounting, and Operations teams to ensure accurate cost tracking, timely billings, strong financial controls, and effective project financial management across multiple active projects.

Key Responsibilities
Project Financial Management

Maintain accurate project budgets, cost tracking, and financial records

Monitor project costs and analyze budget variances

Assist with forecasting cash flow and project expenditures

Support preparation of financial reports, forecasts, and project summaries

Assist with construction project close-outs and financial reconciliations

Ensure accurate capture and reporting of project costs

Billing & Accounts Receivable

Prepare monthly progress billings and supporting documentation





Prepare client invoices for fixed-price, cost-plus, and T&M; projects

Monitor collections and track payment statuses

Coordinate with Project Managers regarding billing approvals and requirements

Maintain accurate billing records and schedules

Update invoice and payment statuses within project management systems

Accounts Payable & Expense Processing

Process vendor and subcontractor invoices

Ensure proper cost coding and approval workflows

Review trade invoices against contracts, budgets, and commitments

Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies

Review and process employee expense reports for accuracy, compliance, and timely reimbursement

Month-End & Financial Reporting

Assist with month-end close processes, including journal entries and accruals

Complete monthly bank and corporate credit card reconciliations

Ensure reporting deadlines are met

Support quarterly forecasting and annual budget preparation

Identify and resolve inconsistencies within project financials

General Administrative & Team Support

Maintain organized project financial records and documentation

Assist with audits, reporting requests, and special projects

Collaborate with internal departments to improve processes and efficiencies

Support continuous improvement initiatives within the Finance & Operations teams

Qualifications & Experience

Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

1–3 years of accounting experience, preferably within construction or a project-based industry

Experience with accounting software such as Sage, QuickBooks, Premier Construction,



or similar ERP systems is considered an asset

Experience with Procore or similar project management software is considered an asset

Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite

High attention to detail with the ability to meet deadlines

Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills

Strong understanding of accounting principles and project-based financial management
