BuildDirect is a publicly traded, multi-brand specialty building products platform spanning BuildDirect.com, TileOutlets.com, Tile Outlets of America retail and Pro Centers, and a growing marketplace business. We are rebuilding our digital engine in-house — AI-native, fast, and accountable — and this role sits at the center of that.

The Role
You are the owner of website quality and velocity. Sales, merchandising, and leadership send you issues — a bad product image, a broken filter, a missing feature, a category page that isn't converting — and you run them to ground. Some you fix directly. Some you solve with AI-assisted development using Claude Code. Some you scope, propose, and present back with a recommendation. Nothing sits in a backlog waiting for a sprint.

This is a builder-operator role, not a ticket-router. You'll ship changes to production sites weekly, sometimes daily.

What You'll Do
Issue resolution (run it down)

Own the intake-to-resolution loop for site issues from sales, merchandising, and leadership — triage, fix, or elevate with a proposed solution within defined SLAs.

Fix content and data problems at the source: chase vendors for better product imagery, correct PDP copy and specs, resolve catalog data gaps.

Communicate status clearly — every issue gets an owner, a timeline, and a close-out.

AI-assisted development (build it)

Use Claude Code and AI tooling to build, test, and deploy functionality improvements on Shopify Plus — new features, theme changes, app integrations, automation scripts.

Prototype fast, validate with stakeholders, ship, and document.

Manage product ordering and curation on category and collection pages in partnership with merchandising — sort logic, featured placements,



seasonal and promotional resequencing.

Support promotional events (sales, launches) with landing pages, banners, and on‑site changes delivered on schedule.

Proactive optimization (upgrade it)

Continuously audit the site experience — speed, UX, navigation, search, mobile — and bring a steady pipeline of upgrade recommendations to the team with impact estimates.

Monitor analytics and conversion data to find friction and propose fixes before anyone files a ticket.

What Success Looks Like

Site issues resolved in days, not weeks — with a visible log of what shipped.

Measurable lift in PDP content quality (imagery, data completeness) across priority SKUs.

A recurring cadence of shipped functionality improvements built with AI tooling.

Category pages actively managed and aligned to promotional and merchandising priorities.

Leadership hears "done" more often than "in progress."

What You Bring

2–5 years in ecommerce operations, site merchandising, or web production — Shopify (ideally Shopify Plus) experience strongly preferred.

Demonstrated fluency with AI development tools — you've used Claude Code, Cursor, or similar to build and ship real functionality, and you can show us.

Strong bias to action and ownership: you close loops, chase vendors, and don't wait to be told twice.

Explicit communicator — comfortable presenting solutions and trade‑offs to sales teams and executives.

Detail‑oriented with product data: images, specs, attributes, taxonomy.

Nice to have

Experience with Klaviyo, HubSpot, NetSuite, or product feed management (Google Merchant Center).

Building products, flooring, or home improvement category experience.

Familiarity with SEO fundamentals and site performance optimization.
