General Accountability
Reporting to the Director of Finance and Treasury, the Tax Manager is a senior finance professional responsible for leading the organization's tax function and supporting broader business objectives and growth initiatives. As a key member of the corporate finance team, the Tax Manager oversees corporate tax compliance, planning, reporting, and risk management activities. This role ensures adherence to all applicable tax laws and regulations while identifying opportunities to optimize the company's overall tax position. Working closely with Finance, Accounting, Legal, and external advisors, the Tax Manager provides strategic tax guidance and supports business growth, corporate transactions, and other key initiatives.
Core Responsibilities
Tax Compliance & Reporting
Manage the preparation, review, and filing of federal, provincial/state, local, and other tax returns
Ensure timely and accurate tax payments and regulatory filings
Oversee tax provisions and related disclosures for monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess impacts on the organization
Assist the Company in obtaining tax credits, accelerated deductions and other government incentives supporting the mining industry and critical minerals
Tax Planning & Strategy
Develop and implement tax planning strategies to optimize the Company's tax position
Support mergers and acquisitions, financing transactions, and corporate restructuring initiatives from a tax perspective
Evaluate tax implications of new business activities, contracts, and investments
Provide recommendations to senior leadership on tax-related risks and opportunities
Audit & Risk Management
Manage relationships with tax authorities and external auditors
Lead responses to tax audits, examinations, and inquiries
Maintain strong internal controls around tax processes and documentation
Identify and mitigate tax risks across the organization
Team & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Collaborate with accounting, treasury, legal, payroll, and operational teams
Support process improvements and automation initiatives within the tax function
Manage and develop tax staff and/or external service providers as applicable
Serve as a trusted advisor to finance leadership and business stakeholders
Education and Experience
Required
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or related field
CPA accounting designation
7+ years of progressive accounting and corporate tax experience in public accounting and/or industry, preferably with a big four accounting firm
Strong knowledge of corporate income tax, indirect tax, and tax accounting IFRS principles.
Experience preparing and reviewing tax returns and tax provisions under IFRS accounting standards
Advanced MS Excel and financial analysis skills
Excellent communication, organizational, and project management abilities
Preferred
Experience in a multi-entity, multinational, or complex corporate environment
Mining or real estate experience in Canada and/or the USA
CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Course
Familiarity with ERP systems and tax technology solutions
Leadership or people management experience
