Purpose:
The Infusion Nurse is responsible for delivering safe, high-quality infusion and injection therapy across multiple specialty clinics within the organization. This role requires flexibility, strong clinical judgment, and the ability to work independently while maintaining consistent standards of patient care at all clinic locations.

The nurse will support patients receiving biologic, immunologic, and specialty therapies in accordance with physician orders, evidence-based guidelines, and Royal Drugs clinical policies. In addition to direct patient care, the nurse will assist with clinic operations, quality improvement initiatives, staff education, and maintaining regulatory compliance.

Job Responsibilities:

Clinical Care

Perform comprehensive patient assessments before, during, and after infusion or injection therapy.

Administer intravenous infusions, subcutaneous injections, intramuscular injections, and other prescribed specialty medications.

Initiate and maintain peripheral IV access.

Monitor patients throughout treatment for therapeutic response and adverse reactions.

Recognize and respond appropriately to infusion-related reactions and medical emergencies.

Administer emergency medications in accordance with clinic protocols.

Complete post-treatment assessments and discharge teaching.

Specialty Therapies

Administer medications including, but not limited to:

Biologic therapies

Immunoglobulin therapy (where applicable)

Iron infusions

Monoclonal antibodies

Neurology therapies

Gastroenterology therapies

Rheumatology therapies

Dermatology therapies

Respiratory biologics

Ophthalmology specialty medications (where applicable)

Patient Education

Educate patients regarding:

Medication indications

Administration process

Potential side effects

Signs requiring medical attention

Home monitoring

Follow-up care

Reinforce medication adherence.

Provide injection training for self-administered biologic medications.

Support patients with treatment-related questions and concerns.

Care Coordination

Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, nurse practitioners,



and patient support programs.

Coordinate appointments across multiple clinic locations.

Ensure laboratory work and physician orders are complete before treatment.

Assist with reimbursement and specialty medication coordination when required.

Communicate significant clinical findings to the treating physician.

Documentation

Complete accurate and timely electronic medical documentation.

Maintain infusion records and nursing assessments.

Document adverse events and report according to organizational policy.

Ensure medication administration records are complete.

Participate in quality assurance audits.

Medication Management

Verify physician orders.

Prepare medications in accordance with organizational policies.

Maintain cold-chain integrity where applicable.

Perform medication reconciliation.

Monitor inventory and report shortages.

Ensure proper storage and handling of specialty medications.

Clinic Operations

Rotate between assigned clinic locations based on operational needs.

Prepare infusion suites before clinic opening.

Ensure emergency equipment is functional.

Maintain infection prevention and control standards.

Assist with clinic workflow and patient scheduling as needed.

Participate in clinic start-up and expansion initiatives.

Quality & Safety

Maintain current CPR/BLS certification.

Follow all infection prevention and occupational health policies.

Participate in quality improvement initiatives.

Report safety incidents and near misses.

Ensure compliance with College of Nurses standards and organizational policies.

Travel Requirements

Provide nursing coverage across multiple clinic locations.

Travel between clinics using a reliable personal vehicle.

Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends based on clinic schedules.

Participate in new clinic openings and temporary staffing coverage.

Qualifications:
Required

Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Nurse (RN).

Minimum 3 years of recent clinical nursing experience.

Minimum 2 years of infusion therapy experience.

Current BLS/CPR certification.

Proficient in peripheral IV insertion.

Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation.

Ability to travel regularly between clinic sites.

Preferred

Certified Registered Nurse Infusion (CRNI®) designation (or willingness to obtain).

Experience in specialty infusion clinics.

Experience with biologic medications.





Experience in gastroenterology, rheumatology, neurology, dermatology, respiratory medicine, ophthalmology, or immunology.

Experience with electronic medical records (EMR).

Knowledge & Symptoms

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

Manual dexterity for IV insertion and medication preparation.

Working Conditions
The Infusion Nurse works in ambulatory specialty clinics throughout the assigned region. The position requires regular travel between clinic locations and may occasionally support the opening of new clinics or provide temporary coverage where staffing needs arise. Flexibility, independence, and the ability to maintain consistent standards of care across multiple sites are essential to success in this role.
