Job Summary
The Department of Culture & Arts supports a holistic vision of health and wellbeing by delivering arts and cultural programs and services that have a broad focus of enriching the life experience. We are committed to tapping into the creative potential of our residents to improve physical and emotional health and enhance relationships. Also, we sustain Baycrest's Jewish identity while supporting an inclusive community of care that acknowledges the culturally diverse needs of our non-Jewish clients, families, staff and volunteers. The department oversees Music Therapy and Creative Arts, the Morris and Sally Justein Jewish Heritage Museum, a Creative Arts Studio, Intergenerational/ Lifelong Learning Programs, and Cultural Programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Designs and implements music therapy treatment as a non-pharmacological intervention for behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) for residents in long term care
- Interviews, selects, orients and supervises volunteer, students/interns
- Contributes to a multi-disciplinary team and music therapy professional development
- Coordinates services with other staff/departments
- Assesses referred clients
- Maintains accurate clinical records, statistics, program documentation, and ongoing evaluation
- Develops and maintains an inventory of program supplies
- Ensures compliance with Music Therapy 'Code of Ethics' and 'Standards of Practice'
- Participates in research initiatives related to music therapy
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Music Therapy Degree is required
- Accredited Music Therapist ('MTA') through the Canadian Association of Music Therapists ('CAMT')
- Membership in good standing with CAMT required
- Experience in the development and implementation of music therapy services required
- Experience with BPSD and Responsive Behaviours
- Excellent knowledge and experience with research methodologies (including qualitative/quantitative data analysis tools), preferred
- Excellent interpersonal, organization, and communication skills essential
- Demonstrated skills in creative programming, utilizing a wide range of music therapy program modalities
- Experience in working with a Jewish population is an asset
- Experience working with an aging population an asset
- Fluency in Yiddish, Romanian, Hebrew, Russian, Hungarian languages an asset
- Proficient Computer Skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Experience with Point Click Care and Activity Pro an asset
